I had just got new tires and work done on my transmission on the same day. It only happens when I hit the gas going forward not reversing. I was driving on asphalt which would cause my new tires to make noise. The ticking doesn't happen when my car is just on and idle. Only when I move forward. I can't hear it if I have my windows up. And my husband says if it were a problem under my hood, I would be able to hear the noise windows up or not. Everybody suggests I give my new tires a week to break them in. Please help, the noise is so annoying!

First I'd check the oil. It's possible that is low and affecting the tappets.

If the oil is fine, check the tappets. They always sound like you have just described when they need replacing.

Don't let ANYBODY tell you off when you hear something wierd with your car, you know it better then the rest and know when a noise is new.

This sounds like something between the tires and the transmission, of which both recently had work done to. I conclude this since you say that car does not make the noise when sitting still.

You don't say what type of car, it might be a Constant Volocity joint (CV) going bad, but these normally are worst when turning sharp one direction or another. Without hearing the noise or knowing the type of car I say you go back to whoever did the transmission and have them take a look. They might have left something loose or hanging.

Good luck

Sounds like a CV or Universal joint. If it started right after you had tires put on, the mechanic may have screwed up something. "You'd be suprised" I'd suggest thay you go back to the mechanic and tell them about it. Your car should ride smoother and quieter after putting on new tires, not the opposite.

there is only 2 things that I can think of; perhaps you got a exhaust leak but i don't think so, the other is there is something hitting your drive shaft, [if it's a rear wheel drive] it it's a front wheel drive it could be one of your trans axel boots. either way it's not suppose to make noise.

I had the same problem and it took a long time to figure it out, it turned out that the neighbors cat was stuck in the fan. Check your fan.

when the car moves, and at what speeds, did they add enough oil in your tranny? is it comeing from under your hood, and not from the calippers, its really hard to say....

Ask Dodge Man. He would know exactly what the problem is.
