Since I have both the laptop and a desktop computer, i m not going to install Vista in my systems for some time , because of the following reasons:
* Drivers of the same has not been released yet, and its like running your computer without life.
* Miminum amount of RAM required is 512MB and it still is insufficient.
*Minimum HDD space required is 40 GB. but not a problem though.
* Vista doesnt support HD audio, so i can't run on my laptop since laptops mostly have HD audio built into it.
* Miminum graphics memory required is 64MB . have to purchase video card.
* Most programs are incompatible with Vista as of now.
But its a good OS and some security flaws are there. Hope they will be resolved soon. But will try later when all drivers are available. I have tried the Vista RC1 release in my laptop but could not be able to get most of it because of above reasons. Above all, it deleated my recovery partition, and hence my original XP home is also lost. Now i hv purchased XP pro. , so hv to pay major cost of installing RC1. I recommend you not to try this sort of thing.

First if you are going to do make sure that your system will handle it and not run slower. And until more application programs are on the market to take advantage of it's better structure, I would stay with XP for now. Wait until the vendors selling computers start installing it and then at least you will have a little help with any problems, though you will most likely have to go to the 2nd tier techs.

Before you spend a few hundred dollars on a operating system you should make sure it will run on your PC.

Also, many are complaining based on a Beta version that was released for TESTING PURPOSES. I’m sure the final release will have improved greatly from RC1 & 2.
I’m getting Vista Ultimate, as I already have a GPU that supports DX10.

No, XP will still be good for awhile, and I like to give microsoft time to work out the bugs before I make any changes.Though, I do think it looks pretty cool and has some seemingly interesting features. It's just not something I can't live without.

no, one of the worst programs out there. extremely memory hungry...god help you if youve pirated anything as it will IMMEDIATELY REPORT to microsoft all serial numbers you have. most older hardware including almost all dell isnt compatible and its microsofts intent to force you into it by discontinuing all support for anything below xp. i work with a deveoper on microsofts list and know EXACTLY what im talking about. STAY THE heck AWAY FROM THIS ONE.

I'm going to give it a try, it looks cool. I work with computers so I must know about all the new stuff. Why should you do it? I don't know, I wouldn't do it unless you had a computer you could experiment with. Good luck
