utorrent

Then you can use torrentz.com or fulldls.com to download the torrent files..

Avoid the likes of limewire, kazaa, emule, etc... These stuff are sometimes piggybacked with loads of adware that can slow down your PC... And sometimes even the downloaded files are malicious.

As for torrents, the more seeders, the more chances that the stuff you're downloading is legit..

I've had much better luck finding e-books in news groups than bittorent or any of the others. Check your ISP's website for newsgroup access. It's usually free though it's sometimes limited. Newsgroups is the oldest form of filesharing on the net. It's even older than IRC.
Forte's Agent is a great freeware newsgroup reader. The section you want will end in .binaries and look for e-books in the listing. There are usually hundreds available. I get tons of fiction and manuals there.
As a bonus, you can download at pretty close to your max speed since most newsgroup servers are connected to internet backbone servers. This means your not limited by how many seeders are available and what their internet connection speed is. BT usually has turtle speeds for books.
Check out Binaries4All.com for how to get into the action.
