Protien in your urine is not always a sign for pre-eclampsia. It can also simply mean you are dehydrated. It would depend on the levels of the protien. Depending on how far along you are and how much caffiene if any that you drink can determine the amount of protien in your urine. I recommend staying away from caffiene and drinking lots of water. Get your urine retested and if you still have high levels of protein then yes this could be a sign of pre-eclampsia. As for your doc not talking to you or explaining things to you, I would not put up with that. I would find another doc and/or demand answers. Good Luck......

Protein is a sign of pre-eclampsia, but the 2nd symptom of this is hbp. Your dr. will probably monitor you closely and see if this continues. If your protein level keeps increasing, your dr. will probably do a 24hr urine test. If that is at an increased level, they will monitor your bp as well, and if both are high, and you are still early in your pregnancy, you will most likely be put on bed rest. If you are at the end of your pregnancy, they might just go ahead and induce you. Make sure you ask lots of ?'s at your next appointment, because sometimes that's the only way to get answers. Also know that I've had this with both of my pregnancies, so I know the whole routine. Good luck with your pregnancy, and I hope you have a happy and healthy baby!!!

Yes, usually protien in the urine indicates preeclampsia or toxemia risk. Also can very high bood pressure levels. Swelling also is an indicator of preeclampsia. It is not always developed but they will monitor you very closely. It is also known as protienuria.

don't settle for a doctor that is vague in telling you things about your pregnancy. this is possibly the most extreme change your body will ever go thru. If they don't tell you things, ask. If they are still vague in their answers, find another one! Don't risk the health of you or your child for some doctors that cant take the time to explain these very important things to you!

it means you're at a higher risk. i spilled proteins late in my pregnancy so they ended up inducing me. it's a definite step toward preeclampsia though and it's REALLY dangerous. you need to cut your salt intake dramatically which will help your blood pressure stay lower. search yahoo for a site about it and learn all the symptoms because it's serious and you and your baby could die from it. i don't mean to scare you, you just need to be informed, that's all.

It means you are more at risk of developing preeclampsia, if you are worried test your blood pressure regularly. Don't be afraid to ask your doctor or mid wife questions, they won't think badly of you. It is your body and your baby, if you want to know somthing they have to tell you. :-)

I had protein in my urine and they told me i had mild pre-eclampsia at the time but it got worse for me. If your doctor will not explain things to you i would be going to a different doctor.
Good luck and Congrats!
