As a secondary school teacher I have often encouraged the use of music while studying and have made Cd's of so called Accelerated Learning Music (see link). However, I would always make 1 point of caution - if you are going to be taking exams anytime soon it is a good idea to practise studying in a quiet environment. If you're always used to listening to music while you work you may find the silence difficult at first.

Who said that there should be no Music while studying? A very wrong statement indeed..........
Music is the universal language and a healing Agent, stress releiver and soothes troubled and disturbed minds. Music should be there to have relaxation when too much of studying is done and it plays the vital role in many lives to come out of stress.
Do not have music as a diversion instead listen to instrumental music to relax your body and mind.
Music cannot be avoided by anyone while studying if it is given right time and choice.
Yes Music should be there not at the time when you study but after you finish studying.Sometimes Music never allows children or adults to concentrate much so kindly use your free time to listen to it .Give preference for studying and then have Music.
It does not mean that a student can study with a headphone/walkman switched on... NO never! Two things at a time will end up in Failure and double mindedness will make you
miss the target to achieve your goals. So I would like to stress that Music should be there but in a controlled, planned manner.
I have shared my genuine views because I am a teacher of western music.

There should be some instrumental slow music (if you want) as it reduces your tension, whatever be the reason for it. But if you are not able to concentrate in your studies, switch off the music and study silently. So it depends upon how much importance you give to your studies.

No, play music, it stimulates your mind! The best music to play in the background while you're studying is Baroque music (composed in the period 1600 - 1750: Vivaldi, Bach, Haydn). Studies have found that even if you hate Baroque music you will achieve 10 - 20 % better in tests after you have studied while listening to it!

Mozart isn't Baroque, but should have the same effects.

It varies from person to person. My personal experience is that it is okay to listen to music while ure studying a subject like mathematics. Perhaps, you can do with some silence while studying a subject that requires memorizing...music might distract you. Like i said, it still varies from person to person.

It depends on what type of learner you are. Baroque music is supposed to have a rhythm that actually stimulates brain activity, which would suggest it's something you WOULD want on when you're studying.
