Because 'maladaptive' would suggest that a person is unable to adjust their behaviour to a state that is socially acceptable, and social acceptance is arguably the most important attribute to human or animal life. Furthermore, adaptabilty is the most important charactersitic of human nature; its why we made it out of the dark ages. To be 'maladaptive' or to have 'maladaptive behaviour' takes away the most basic of human characteristics from a person. it takes away their dignity. It is however much to do with perception and the perceiver.

There is no definition for 'normal' therefore the diagnosis of abnormal by this means is null and void. Furthermore if I would not live in a state that had a strict criteria for 'normality'

Normal is made up for social standing.In truth who knows what really is normal.
