Im thinking specifically about big brother. i know Jade and her cronies and thick as pigshit and ignorant childish bullies, but was it really racist?? I think not? and how about jermaine saying the expression "white trash"? why is it one rule for one and not the other? I appreciate that not many of u will care either way about big brother, but im really talking about the principle, rather than the specific show

I think it's really weird that Jermaine got away with saying 'white trash' and no one picked up on it. I also read that when Miss India won Miss World twice in a row, or something like that, the Sun's headline was "Curry on Miss India" and now they're having a go at Jade for saying 'poppadom'. It's also strange how audience members on big brother's big mouth said that Jo was going to turn out to be a *****, because she's from Essex, before the show had even properly started! No one had a go about that, but it's almost even worse. At least Jade and the others got to know Shilpa and didn't like her as a person, they didn't simply decide not to like her just because of where she came from. That's racism, isn't it, to prejudge someone based on their race. Well I think it's deplorable to prejudge anybody on the basis of where they are from, their nationality or colour of their skin. You can't pick and choose which prejudice is alright, and which isn't.
I sometimes wonder whether this overt picking up on the little comments made by people in the big brother house doesn't speak more about the racist attitudes of people in Britain. I mean, how come if an English person went into a foreign big brother and was referred to as 'the english one', it wouldn't seem so bad. How come few Brits take it personally if when they go, for example, to Morrocco, they are called 'fish and chips' continuosly by everyone in the street? It's as if the media are saying, oh it's fine to be called British, or for someone not to able able to pronounce your white british name, or to call you by the name of a national dish, because 'Britishness' is seen as ok, whereas they are implying that calling someone Indian, or by the name of an indian dish, or not being able to pronounce an Indian name is an insult, and what the hell is so insulting about simply being Indian?!!!? I'm not sure of all the comments that were made, but as far as I know, nobody said that Shilpa was inherently a ***** or a bad person BECAUSE she was Indian, and all Indian people are like that. In which case, no, it wasn't racist, and the press are making a massive big hooha about nothing and are behaving very irresponsibly just to sell papers and boost ratings. Silly people!!!!

personally i think that race is irrelevant, but the incident should be judged on what actually happens eg. bullying rather than the victim being able to say weather they feel it was racially motivated or not as they could never know the true motivation behind someone else's actions. i think that the fact that there are special laws for racism may actually cause added tension and have a negative affect on integration.

Always, I do it myself sometimes when I get angry about certain issues. It's not right, we've been programed to act in this manner, even though we've been taught better! May God help us all to be better examples for the next coming generations!!!!!

WITHOUT A DOUBT, YES!

...and not only in Big Brother. Society is designed to make abusers of our hospitality feel as comfortable as possible.

When asked to answer the question of race by someone or on some form, I always respond "HUMAN" because there is only one race. The rest is strictly ethnic background which is irrelevant.

Yes, It did on me :-( I was forced out of my own home by this one particular race and now I am renting private. The police, Environment Health, etc did FA about it. I complained and complained, made records for ASB, but it was me who ran in the end through being forced out by one. I don't hate Ethnic Minorities, but I dislike them. (Well some of them)
