The difficulty with putting an ad in the newspaper is that you are not entirely certain who will respond, or their motivation. Perhaps you can ask friends or work colleagues rather than take the risk of advertising in the paper.

No not nowadays because there are too many perverts running around. I wouldn't trust my child with someone I found in a newspaper. I would just ask around for personal references or get my family to do it.
