At this point I am desperately trying to find the species of my beloved pet Jack. He was rescued from a home Depot where they had planned on killing him thinking he was a rat, he is not. He was then tried to be passed off as a chinchilla (also he is not)and he wound up in my care. He appeared to be declawed at first but he isn't, so apparently he bites his nails like a degu. He has to be very young (he was a baby when I got him, I know that because I can just now see that he is a boy) also he is still growing. He is very tame, when we first brought him home and put him in his cage he wasn't scared at all like a wild animal would be. He also plays ball with me and allows me to hold him.He doesn't walk, instead he hops like a kangaroo and also thumps his feet when we put a degu of ours in with him (thinking he was one of them he was fine with it until it came into his large pet igloo he literally took his back feet and kicked it out. He has a long fluffy tail (like a chinchilla)...

and has facial features of a kangaroo. Although he does get a runny nose (like an allergy) from tanks and some bedding, the first time we took him to the vet, not even he knew what he was. He has long ears too. It is hard to tell in pictures what he REALLY looks like but I am attaching some anyway. He IS litter trained too. He doesn't know how to drink out of a water bottle and wont drink out of a water bowl, He eats fancy lettuce ( NO iceburge and lots of vegtables)he also has a sweet tooth like a little kid, he eats his occasional cookie crumb, and muffin piece, amongst other things too. He will let he feed him baby food too. He is noctunal too. He is (rough estimate) from tip of nose to tip of tail 1'2" to 2" long. I think that he is probably a Kangaroo Rat but he doesn't have the tail for it. but I am no specailist or anything like that. I don't know what else could help if you have more questions I can answer them to the best of my ability.
