With the recent 'so called' racist outcomes from this years Celeb Big Brother I wonder what is racism and what is termed as being a Nationalist? Say if I was to tell somebody my surname and the person whom I was speaking to didn't understand it and misinterpreted my surname for something else. Are they being racist? I feel that this 'can of worms' can only be opened further and will eventually become a much bigger problem that will cause any government problems.

The difference between racism and nationalism depends on whether you are hostile to other races as a result of your nationalistic pride.
Most people who are nationalistic are not racist, but pig-headed and ignorant all the same - missing out on a world just because they insist on 'keeping it English (or whatever)'.

Jade's point of view in all of this is important.

She seems to honestly believe that she was just making stupid jokes. It apparently never occurred to her that someone else would hear it differently.

Part of what we need to do is consider how our words and actions are received. That's actually the idea behind 'political correctness', before it was hijacked and made into an object to ridicule.

Can we use this episode as a way of seeing both sides of this issue? That one can behave in a way that's racist without overt racist intent. That life is much simpler when we're careful with our language.

Being called a racist is just par for the course for anyone who wins an argument with a liberal.

Every liberal, commie in the world has a hissy-fit if a white male has any pride at all. -But, they'll play Snoop Dogg all night and feel "hip."

The fact is people are different. Whether this matters at all may be debated, but to say countries founded by white folks have different customs than countries founded by black folks would be a true statement.

Can some blacks appreciate white culture? Yes. Can some whites appreciate black culture? Yes -But the fact remains; even after mandatory desegregation blacks and whites CHOOSE to live among their own. Milwaukee is a great example of voluntary segregation.

Can blacks and whites live together with one culture? Yes, to a limited extent. I say "limited" because NEVER in any society, in any country, in the history of Earth have blacks and whites shared a peaceful, successful existence. Name one?

Many crime, disease and SAT statistics can be sighted to show the difference between races.

American Nationalism is merely recognition of American culture and its origins.

Liberals are greatly hypocritical when they howl about the nationalism of Americans, while staying completely silent about the nationalism of South Africa or the Congo where whites are being hacked to death with machetes.

This shows a clear traitor-mentality. The fact is blacks have pride, whites have pride and so do Hispanics. We are ALL different. All minorities have their home countries, but everyone howls racism if anyone mentions a homeland for whites.

We have the ability to accept another’s culture, but only at the expense of our own.

Racism is about hate, not pride in ones self. Having pride in your race is honorable. Liberals will never get this.

Liberals think black-power is cool and white-power is evil, this shows their hypocrisy. When directly CONFRONTED about this hypocrisy they will back off. -But they will never, ever defend a white, male for having pride in his race regardless of how he feels about other races.

When black athletes gave the "black-power" symbol in Mexico City during the Olympics it raised no objections by ANY liberals.

This is their idea of being "politically-correct." A white doing the same would be "racism."

American Nationalism is about American culture.

misinterpreting a name of a different nationality is not racist. However, deliberately mispronouncing it is ignorent. What makes it rasist is when you replace their surname with something that is derogatory of their ethnic group, or in jade's case by saying poppudum, she was patronising her ethnic origin.

Being a nationalist is not technically racist but can lead that way. There is nothing wrong with being proud to be english, but often these beliefs can lead to a BNP way of thinking, by excluding all who are not traditionally english to keep britain british.

rac·ism (rszm) KEY

NOUN:

The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

na·tion·al·ism (nsh-n-lzm, nshn-) KEY

NOUN:

Devotion to the interests or culture of one's nation.
The belief that nations will benefit from acting independently rather than collectively, emphasizing national rather than international goals.
Aspirations for national independence in a country under foreign domination.

I suppose if you replace "race" in the racism definition you'll get more or less what you'd define "nationalism" as.

Trouble is in this country (UK) Too many ethnic minorities are using this damn race card. It should be stopped immediately. We Brits will have no rights left soon, and this is where we was born...lol. The Government are already trying to make it into a police state and soon enough it will be like living in the BB house, camera's watching every move you make.

There is no practical difference between racism and nationalism, other than the fact that nationalism goes further, and discriminates on grounds other than race. Both racism and nationalism are based on the fear, denigration and demonisation of 'others'.

thre's a much bigger agenda going on, to make us ashamed of our national identity. Looks at the European Community, which wants to knock down national barriers and absorb all countries in one amorphous mass. The way to do is to take away national pride in one's country or to make one ashamed of one's nationality., Hence the English flag is the symbol of football hooliganism and to display it in one's front window could be perceived as 'racist' or belonging to the BNP.
So you take away the wish to display one's flag, and then you take away the pride in being English, then you make it impossible to express an opinion about someone else who might happen to be a different colour ... then it is easy to just take over that country, which is what the EU wants to do, and there's no-one left to defend it.

racism is literally the last taboo. it will start a huge war. if the media left it alone we would not have such a problem as we do today.
