People will always fail you, but if YOU are a true friend to someone the things you do will sow good seed into their lives.
I would term a true friend as someone who cares and is around when "friend" is in trouble or troubled. It would be someone who is willing to go that extra mile to help "friend" and that would be someone who is a good listener, maybe not having all the answers but might ask pertenant questions that would lead the"Friend" in the right direction helping to find a solution. A good friend would be brutally honest as well about things and would diplomatically bring to the attention of the "friend" things needing to be addressed. Remember a diplomat is someone who can tell you to go to hell and you will look forward to the trip! LOL
Seriously though a true friend is accountable towards the person befriended acting with dignity and integrity and disciplined. Kind, caring and considerate. Respectful and sincere.

You answered your own question :) A TRUE friend is someone you admire, someone who is there for you through thick & thin; someone who can disagree with you or what you've done but still love you anyway. It is the person that you can totally be you with. They are few and far between, but thats because they are special people. When you find one, hang on to them and appreciate their friendship cause you've found a rare treasure! I saw this definition once and it stuck with me, "A friend is someone you can call in the middle of the night who will get out of bed and come and bail you out of jail. A TRUE friend will be sitting along side you in jail, saying d____ that was fun!" Not that you should ever be in jail - its the meaning behind it. Get it? You've got that kind of friend in your future...just around the corner. I can feel it! Enjoy!

A true friend is a loyal friend, someone who'll be there for you no matter what, will offer you a shoulder to cry on, keep your secrets, won't judge you, talk about you behind your bad, criticize you, hurt you, say anything to make you feel bad, betray you or run out on you when you need them the most. A friend will never hide anything from you and will never ever put your business out even after a fallout.

a true friend will see you regularly and not just because they are bored and want something, they will share the good times as well as the bad, they will make you laugh and be a shoulder to cry on, they will stand by you even if they don't agree with what you are doing, you should both enjoy each others company also a friend wouldn't stop seeing you just because they had a new fella

My idea of a true friend is someone who will talk to you without having to talk to them first. Wont mind if you have a problem that you would like to talk with them about. Has friends that like you. Will ditch a group just to be with you. Does never ignore you. People like this are in extremely short supply these days.

For me, a true friend is the other half of your life. You can't live without him, and he can't live without you. He shares your triumph, your happiness, your pain. It's not necessary that you both like the same things, or that he always tells you jokes when you're together. May he be noisy or quiet, ugly or beautiful, nerd or cool, very much like you or very much your opposite, as long as he stays when everyone else are going out... he's a true friend.

the single that sticks around no remember what, those you could count on one hundred%, those you could have confidence by using thick and skinny. i found out the annoying way approximately 'elementary climate acquaintances'. human beings I had understand for over 10 years -had espresso with as quickly as a week, chatted to on the telephone in many situations - vanished from the scene while James replaced into clinically determined with leukaemia. My 'superb mate' of 17 years (we shared a house at Uni, i replaced into Godmother to her daughter etc) crossed the line to dodge me after James died. I had possibly 8 human beings I seen stable acquaintances and a dozen greater I classed as 'acquaintances'. of those, in basic terms 2 are nevertheless on the scene. those I type as my 'actual acquaintances'.
