.ADVANTAGE:

-More users can use the network simultaneously
-More hard disk space and Paging memory (ie. memory space from two computers is always greater than just one)
-You can share your periferals like printer, scanner even if they are in two different rooms

DISADVANTAGE:

-Only one user can use a peripheral (printer) at a time..
-Your internet speed gets divided.. ie. If you have 256KB connection, each computer will get only 128KB
-More electricity will be used
-Maintenance cost is higher (to install LAN cables etc)

EDIT: Oh heres somthing else I thought of

Adv: Files in one computer can be accessed from other computers and one main server computer can control/limit the acess
Disadv: If the main server crashes, all other computers will also be affected

laptops are great but very fragile ... make sure to get insurance for theft, breakage, etc. Otherwise having a backup computer system is a great thing whether shared with others in the family or not. Your "other" computer can be networked so it's like a remote hard drive. Keep both systems backed up regularly.

the drawback of a laptop is the weak, dangerous batteries and they break easy, with parts very expensive and hard to replace.

other computers on a network at home is ok, just running the wires can be hard. Wireless is touch and go.

ive a laptop and a pc in my house it means my kids and husband can go on the desktop and i can use my laptop i can go up to my room with the laptop normally i can sit on the sittee and go online.
The laptop really is a space saver with the pc its taking up space in my dining room .
I couldve had two laptops but wanted the desktop for its better for games and just to have in one spot instead of the kids moving a laptop all around the place .

ive wireless network and have had no problems with it the kids have a psp and have them connected to the network too.

It's an advantage. I just got one for Xmas. I love the fact I can take it anywhere and it takes up less space on a desk than a regular computer.

You can share resources e.g. printers and data stores. You can copy your critical data to another computer or a backup device.
