I have to look after my 74 year-old Chinese granny for two weeks, and can't think of what to cook for her breakfast. Her taste-buds are totally traditional Chinese, I mean, she doesn't even like cheese and cow's milk (prefers tofu and soy milk). I know Chinese people eat congee (rice porridge) in the morning, but what else do they eat with that?

By the way, yeah I'm Chinese by race but grew up in the western world, so I have no idea. Please help me!

Congee with fermented tofu (in jars), pickled lettuce, omelette, vegetables.
Noodles with soup is good too. Ask her which noodles she likes.
You can also buy century eggs and remove the shell, cut into wedges, served with sesame oil and thinly sliced ginger.
Salted duck eggs with congee, nice.

Xi fan, the rice porridge, you can cook it like rice on the stove , but add an extra lot of water, and some salt, you can add toppings separately. Maybe granny would like an egg or some baozi, like the steamed bread with filling if you can get it. how about some noodles. gosh, it's hard, good luck. maybe just try some oatmeal with soy milk.
