he should be more polite as the children of America are catching their valures and mores from him. If he doesn't care, at least he should confine his ridicule for one's singing and not appearance etc.
He mad fun of a man's appearance who has been teased all his life due to having Arrskog syndrome and two mentally retarded men and their relatives are very upset.

I think he is just being honest. Let's face it, that guy last week DID look like a Bush Baby! Very few Americans respect Simon's opinion so I don't know why the contestants take it to heart. I think most of them are just pretending to be hurt in order to get further publicity and potentially end up with a William Hung-type record contract. The thing that I like about Simon is that he is the first to apologize once he has been proven wrong. I know that he has apologized for critical comments he made to Jennifer Hudson and Taylor Hicks. The main problem with Simon is that he is much more harsh on the female contestants' appearance. I never once heard him criticize Ruben Studdard's obesity but he seems to bring it up with every female who is 20 pounds or more overweight.

Since the show has now been airing for quite a few seasons, I think that most contestants should be well aware of what they are going up against when performing in front of Simon. Part of what makes the show is his banter with the other judges and with the participants. The name of the show is American Idol-- I think that the contestants need to be able to sing as well as have "the look". Unfortunately, that is our American society. I honestly don't think that the show would be such a hit if he were more polite.

You either love him or hate him eh?
I would say that he is more then fair in his criticisms. Where he comes across wrong with lots of people is how he portrays this. There is a way of saying things.
Of course, then again, it's Hollywood. He's doing exactly what he needs to do to make American Idol more attractive to the public. I think he is well aware of what he is doing, he knows he's being rude, but he feels it has a purpose.

Simon tells it like it is. I respect him for that. What is really cruel is when someone is the person's family doesn't tell them they don't have the talent needed to sing professionally. Giving false hope is the cruelest thing to go to the hospital.

I think Simon does a good job on letting people know if they can sing or not, but some things he can keep to himself

He is a person who speaks his mind. Honesty is the word. Straight forward. U just have to be strong enough to accept his criticisms and compliments (if any).

People need to be told they can't sing and he only says what he thinks and what they need to hear.
He's like that on every programme he's on and I still love him (not literally) for it.
