I even had to buy a surge protector as adviced by a friend, but the problem persists.could it be that there is a problem with the electrical wiring of the house? This is really baffling because each time i thought the problem is this, it proves not to be. For instance, because of fluctuations i use a voltage stabiliser. I then connected the ups from the stabiliser. Now when there is fluctuations,as the relay switches to correct the change, at times the ups goes off thereby switching off the pc. At other times, the ups gives the normal noise when there is power failure without the pc going off. this is really confusing as I don't know what to really call this. I would really appreciate it if there is someone uot there who can solve this mystery? or is it a puzzle?, for me. Thanks

Have you tried plugging into another circuit? Find one that uses power on a totally different circuit and try it there. If it still happens, try it there without the Power Supply/Surge protector. If it still happens, I would call a computer tech familiar with power supplies on PC's. If there is STILL a problem, consult an electrician.

Hi there.

Seems like the same problem I have where i'm staying at (no pc turn offs tho). And yes, improper, old or faulty electrical wiring can cause your UPS to go nuts, as in switch from battery to AC .. back and forth.

You also have a voltage stabiliser installed? With that, it should be outputting a constant voltage to your UPS. So your UPS should not be acting this way when the power spikes or sags from the stabilzer's side, not between the stabilizer and UPS.

There are some UPS that has a built in voltage stabilizer. Also with your PC going off sometimes, it's shouldn't be happening also. It's either all the time or never. There are settings you can set within the UPS control panel settings that instruct the UPS what to do when there's a power failure or fluctuation, and even voltage sensitivity. It all depends on what features your UPS has.

It is also normal to hear clicks (voltage relay switches) when power goes off or there's an over voltage problem.

I hope this explains the situation you're going thru

First, Remove the stabilizer - it sounds like it may be messing with the UPS. It is also possible that the UPS is bad so you might want to exchange it if you still have the problem after removin gthe stabilizer. I assume you have a proper UPS - one that has a battery backup in it and has line conditioning? WIth all of that you should not need the satbilizer. The UPS will tell you if there is a problem with your power by it's LED status too. Most UPS' (I would suggest a decent one like APC about $70 for a decent one at a not so overpriced electronics store like Frys) will come with a pwer monitoring application like Powerchute. Also, make sure you READ the instructions when setting up the UPS - the batteries need to be installed soemtimes and charged properly.

You may have a loose connection in the electrical box where the fuses / circuits are. It may work fine under an extremely light load, but when a certain amount is in demand it opens. With a circuit breaker , The breaker slides into a receptacle that has has wires screwed to it. The receptacle may have a loose wire or even the breaker itself may be faulty & loosing connection inside. You may even want to turn the MAIN power off and pull the outlet cover-plate off & look at the wall outlet for loose connections.

It could be a bad board but if this just started happening.Take off the side panel and take out the bios battery. When it's turn off of course and let sit for a few minutes and then put it back in .This will restore the main board to the default settings. The only other thing I can think of is your power supply is bad .Good luck
