Well, every rep is different, but when I do a facial, it is to show someone the product. I don't try or expect to sign-up every person that I facial! I do NOT like being pushy like that. Depending on how this rep is, she may need to share the marketing plan with you for contest credit. But, you can say no and it won't hurt her at all. If you do think it is something you might be interested in, ask her to give you info to look over at home. But, for me, I wouldn't want someone to say yes, just to be nice. That doesn't help my team at all.
I love selling MK, so I don't know how many cons I have for you. When you are an active consultant, you get a 50% discount on ALL products. Then, you sell to customers at retail price. You make 50% off of every sale. You can choose to offer items at discounted prices, etc. because this is your business. There are no quotas and no territories. You buy straight from the company and sell direct to the customer. To make 300-400 profit per week, you need to sell about 600-800 per week, which isn't hard. That is about 6-12 faces, which could be as few as 2 or 3 parties. Once you establish a clientele, a lot of your income will come from re-orders and referrels, which allows you to continue to find new customers. I have seen many shy people do VERY well with MK, but you have to be willing to do the work and be motivated. Being shy might be good because then you won't be perceived as being 'pushy'.
WORD OF WARNING: If you don't like this lady, DO NOT SIGN UP UNDER HER! I have seen so many people hate MK because they have a bad recruiter. If you like the business idea, you can always find someone else to sign up under, just get to know your recruiter well enough that you feel comfortable with this person.
Feel free to email me if you have questions or need info!

The best way to make money is to get that product out there to customers. You can make $300 a week or you can make $300 a day because you will get out of the business what you put into it. Find a niche in the industry. Maybe you can concentrate on targeting teen sleepovers to girls (parental approval required) to get them into buying and applying makeup. They will be your loyal customer base over time. You could concentrate on selling the line of men's products to business professionals, models, and any guy who may not be targeted by Mary Kay products. Be different. Shyness can be worked on. Try attending a few Toastmasters meetings. They are a public speaking organization. That will (a) improve your communication skills; and (b) help you network with people who may use your products or know others who use your products. Focus on the features and benefits of the line rather than the price. You won't be investing thousands and thousands of dollars before you know if the company is right for you so you have nothing to lose by trying it. Just realize that more money is made in Mary Kay and other MLM situations with getting people to host parties and to become distributors that you make money off of. That's why learning to speak and sell is so important. Take some classes and talk to other reps, visit online discussion groups and blogs, and make a commitment to yourself to surpass the income goal you have. Any job or business worth doing is worth doing well.

Personally, I never cared for Mary Kay stuff (i think it's way over priced) but if you like the products you may be good at selling them. It may also help you get over your shyness because you do have to interact with people. Good luck!
-the "complimentary" facial is what they use to convince you to be a sales rep and they will call you every day until you agree. If you don't want to become a rep, be strong and just say NO!

I wouldn't suggest it. I have several friends who have gone into the MK business who regretted it. The products aren't completely terrible, but the whole attitude of the corporation is bizzare. Do what they say first, ask questions later. Plus, since your income is based completely on sales, it's not really a job for someone who is shy. And you have to put money in to start. A lot of money. Believe me, don't get wrapped up in MK, it's not worth it, no matter how good they make it sound.
