its not because i want him to sleep longer . how many tea/tablespoons do you mix with the formula if you were to put it in a bottle with 100 ml of formula?

hi.I wouldn't put the rice cereal in the bottle, unless there is a feeding problem with swallowing etc.You will have aproblem with flow through the teat .If you really feel the aby is needing a little bit of solid food, tehn 2 teaspoons of the cereal mixed with formula and fed on a tsp is enough.most of it will end up back on the spoon because of the baby's tounge is not ready for solid food and pushes forward.if you are persisitant and calm and look at it like a fun excersice then it will be ok.I had to start my eldest a t 8 weeks on rice cereal for the same reason. I found he wanted a full bottle every hour, thats just ridicuolous,he was getting very fat,so rice cereal it was.
BTW I like d your answer regarding patting bub off to sleep,it was a good answer and I'm sure it was helpful. You sound like you are doing really well with your baby :)

dont listen to any of these people who say not to put it in the bottle or to wait. if your doctor said to give it to the baby than do it. opinions are like ***holes and everybodies got one. experience is more benificial. do keep in mind that every baby is different. so if a parent tells you dont give them rice till 4-6 months because it is bad for baby but they never did than how the **** do they know what is good for your baby. my baby is 11 weeks old. she was eating 7 ounces every 2 hours. she was gaining 2 ounces aday. she was 7lbs at birth and is now 13 lbs. it was insane. the dr. recommeded to put some rice in a bottle at night before sleep to help her gett the fulness that she obviously wasnt getting. at first i only put in a baby spoon ful being afraid because of all the crap all these extremists kept saying. went back for a checkup on the baby and dr. wanted to know how much rice i was giving her. she laughed at me and said that it was not enough. so she recommended 1-2 teaspoonsful for a 6 once bottle. let me tell you. she has been on this for 2 weeks now. her digestive system is fine and she sleeps 3-5 hour stretches now. the dr. said that they put 1 teaspoonful per ounce in babies bottles who have acid reflux. I think experience outways any opinion. try it out. if the experience is a good one than you just proved all thes people wrong who say it is bad for the baby. my seven year old was started on rice at 11 weeks also and she is and was then perfectly healthy.also although the sleeping was much wanted for my husband and i that was not our main concern. it was the fact that our baby was always hungry and could not be filled up eve by 7 onces every 2 hours. the rice makes them feel more full. ast least it did for my babies.

It's not recommended to feed a baby anything other than breastmilk or formula for the first 6 months of life. Health studies show more allergies, asthma etc. in children fed other foods b4 6 months of age. You'll get lots of advice blaming "hunger", but do you think that's the cause? Can someone help you with settling the baby? At 2 months very few babies sleep thru the night and many like to feed every 3-4 hours. Is normal, but exhausting for you.

Don't put any cereal in a baby bottle. The baby could choke and there's just no need for it. Your two month old does not need cereal yet.

Most doctor will tell you do not put cereal in the bottle. They also say he should start eating solid foods at 4 mo or when they can move the food from the front to the back of the mouth.
As a parent of 3, two girls and a boy. I do not believe putting cereal in the bottle will hurt him. My youngest daughter could not get full, she could drink a bottle every hour. I put on tablespoon of cereal in her bottle and it helped.

You don't. First of all, he's WAY too young for cereal! Secondly, you NEVER put it in the bottle - they can choke on it. Make sure he's taking 32 ounces of formula a day. If he is and is still hungry, speak to your pediatrician about using a higher calorie formula.

It should tell you on the back of the box how much to give to start him off and how to increase it. you can give it to him on a spoon, and shoulnt put it in his bottle for too long if you do. It can clog the teat on a bottle so i used a spoon and fed my 5 the required amount once a day then twice a day. In aus you can also buy juice teats with a bigger hole in them this might work? And i had a very hungry little fellow and i gave him an additave for his bottles, like a thickner to fill him up for longer, Karicare made it , you could ask at the chemist. it was really good he slept for ages! But he may just need the farex. Hope this helps!

No! Who told you to do this? That is horrible advice.
Two month old babies do not sleep more than a few hours at a time and should not be given anything but milk. Is it just more convenient for you to have the baby sleep more? That is the wrong reason to give cereal to your baby!

Rice cereal is a useless "filler" with NO nutritional value. And a 2 month old has NO business having ANY sort of solid food!
