The longest running soap opera that I know of is The Young & The Restless since 1973, but then again I As The World Turns is up there with the The Y&R.

The longest-running TV drama was "Gunsmoke" at 633 episodes.
The longest-running sitcom was "Ozzie and Harriet" at 435 episodes, but "The Simpsons" may beat that if it runs another season (currently at 387 episodes).
The title of longest running soap opera goes to "The Guiding Light" for it's run of 50+ years now.
However, "Meet the Press" probably gets first prize for the overall category of longest-running TV show, spanning 58 years and 2,649 shows.

The longest running soap on the air today is As the World Turns and Guilding light with 50+ year encloding TV and radio broadcast. followed by Days, GH, AMC and YnR or course B & B is the baby on lthe block.
