In a way yes but in many other ways no. As tyrannical as he was, Saddam still managed to control the sectarian differences when he was in power although admittedly, the methods that he used were cruel and inhumane. Having said that however, we should realise by now that the current situations in Iraq and the world after the hanging of Saddam are not improving at all. Sectarian violence is escalating in Iraq, Iran remains defiant, the Palestine-Israel conflict remains a deadlock, radical Islamism doesn't seem to end, and the list continues relentlessly. The question should have been, "Is the world better without self-righteous Bush?"

I love it when people ask this question. What happened to common sense?

While Saddam was alive, people in Iraq were being murdered by the thousands indiscrimminately, especially Kurds. Those allowed to live were living at the mercy and discretion of Saddam and lived in terror. Quality of life was in the toilet.

Any change would have been good for them.

(This is like asking, "is Germany better off without Hitler"! What is it about murder on massive scale that people don't get? What could be worse?)

When Saddam was in control, many Iraqis died but it wasn't news. Now that he's gone, the media is eager to report all deaths. Why is that?

Let me answer this way: I feel better now that the superating pustule that was on my buttocks has been lanced, drained and healed, why shouldn't the same thing apply to the world at large?
