I live with my brother who has internet but its hooked up directly to his computer, not wirelessly. I want to use the internet on my laptop in my bedroom but can't because the only way I could get on the internet here is if I hooked up directly to the wall. How can I get wireless internet access? What should I do?

You need to pick up a wireless router. A wireless router will split the internet connection through the wires and wirelessly throughout the house. You just have to make sure that your laptop is wireless capable, ready to receive wireless internet signals from a wireless router.

First of all, your laptop has to be wireless internet enabled. Most laptops sold after around 2005 are but if you're not sure, see below.
You also need a wireless router. There are loads of models for lots of different prices, but here's one (http://www.amazon.com/Netgear-WGR614-802-11g-Wireless-Router/dp/B00008SCFL) that's $40 and works pretty well for me.

To see if you have wireless capabilities on your computer, right click "My Computer" on your desktop (for Windows) or start menu, click Manage, and in the box on the left click Device Manager. See if it says Network Adapters in the box on the right; if it does click the small + sign. If any of the things that pop up say "wireless" something or other then you're good. If not, then you can buy an adapter from Amazon that plugs into your computer, like this one: http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-DWL-G122-Compact-Wireless-Adapter/dp/B0002DQUHC/.

I'm assuming your brother has broadband internet access. If not there are other types of router for dial-up.

properly u have 2 strategies: the 1st One is that u deploy a instant community adaptor , U can get the two belkin or D link , they're splendid manufacturers, u can get them from on line markets a lot greater value-effective than uncomplicated workstation shops if your workstation is a few distance removed from the router, u will want the better covergae adapter... the 2d decision is that u use a community cable from the router right this moment into the community card ( it may desire to have a port on the rear element next to the modem port )... that's a under pressure connectcion A wirelss decision is greater powerful on account that u can use the workstation everywhere on your living house and in any section that has a instant community coverage..

You need to purchase a wireless router. Follow the direction in the box.

I bought my router for $20 after rebates. 40 otherwise.
