The following is my suggestion:-
1) Refuse to pay money to grease any body's hands.
2) Do not yourself seek to do any thing illegally. Be on the right side of law.
3) Create forums to oversee that the authorities are doing the right things and that there are no consideration demanded or paid for doing the rightful things.
4) Create awareness about the need to cleanse our system free from corrupt practises. There should be public awareness about it. Whenever any wrong doing comes to light, people should not hesitate to agitate. Such movements should be organised in every village/town/cities.
5) A total revolution is the need of the hour.

Reduce the procedures. Make it easy for citizens. However the greatest problem in our country is citizens ourselves. We do not update ourselves with the laws. The officials and middlemen take advantage of it. Even trivial works we do not want to be aware of the rules. Example even a licence for driving motor vehicle we do not whole heartedly expose our selves to learning process but some how want license. This has become perpetual versatile malady.

"Scientifically" we could determine the area of the brain which thrives on the dopamine and serotonin produced in response to positive or happy thoughts and dull the sensory response in relation to any thoughts of getting "ahead" or "around" certain instances we may not like. Man will always have corruption because not all men or humans view righteousness equivocally. The freedom of choice, to do right or wrong has plagued mankind from the beginning of time.

Corruption is more a matter of art than science as it deals with human beings. Science deals with more objective things.
I have suggested in my other answers that each local district should have a website where funds, goals and time bound implementation plans are clearly written so that everybody can see what the local representative is upto. People can also conrtribute ideas for their area as they do here. This will improve transparency which is one way. This should not be done with any malice but in a win-win manner. We should learn from Dhirubhai Ambani about this:-
In the book "Business Maharajas", this is what he has to say:-
"You have to sell your ideas to the government. Selling the idea is the most important thing and for that I shall meet anybody in the government. We cannot change our rulers but we canat least help them learn how to rule us better," he used to tell his executives.
The advantage we have over Dhirubhai is the internet where everybody can monitor on a website what is happening in his area and contribute ideas.
There was another question on corruption which was deleted and so I am repeating this. One should stop expecting public servants to be like Mahatmas. Even in the movie Gandhi, Jinnah tells Gandhi "Aam aadmi aap ki tarah mahatma nahin hota". "Satyameva Jayate" has flopped like socialism because we don't want to be practical- Holier than thou slogans like "service before self" are not easy to apply on a massive scale in real life though some people maybe like that,
Public servants are as human as anybody else and would naturally want money and prestige( award and reward) like anyone else:-
The book "First, break all the rules" reveales a survey or an overall study involving 105680 employee responses spread over 2528 business units- an average of 42 business employees per business unit and 90 business units per company. It gives examples of what happens in business when people are promoted to the wrong jobs. Building on the basic example of Sachin Tendulkar/ Saurav Ganguly, it gives several examples of how the best performer(Sachin) does not necessarily become the best man manager( Saurav-captain). The best example I liked was that of a police officer(performer) getting paid more than his sergeant(boss) because he was a better performer than that guy a man manager and there were different compensations for different roles by a process called broadbanding.
Distinguishing between talent and non-talents, it gives examples of waiters, bar tenders, housekeepers, nurses, data entry operators etc as to how the best were different from the rest even in minor jobs and were compensated highly without necessarily being promoted. The best bartender was someone who remembered names of 3000 guests and their drinks and the champion data entry operator was four times faster than the rest. They gave prestige and money to these best perfomers without necessarily promoting them if they did not have talent for man management.
If all these people are rewarded, why not public servants- after all they run the country. Problem is how do you make performance transparent to judge like that.
Either we do something like that or follow "unscientific methods"-
The Chairman of Infosys, Mr Narayan Murthy, a man known as much for his integrity as for his numerous achievements in the software Industry admits in the book “Business Gurus speak”, “Since all our operations were outside, we had very few operations here(India) and had no need to bribe anyone. Maybe we would have done it, if forced to by circumstances. Every corporation can take only a limited amount of nuisance; beyond that it becomes very difficult“. One has to admire Mr Murthy’s forthrightness in admitting this.
The common man is even more vulnerable. Endless discussions on the issue will not lead us anywhere.
If I may add "One should always strive for excellence, not perfection"- it is possible to minimise corruption(that is also a very tall order)not eliminate it-pefection is neither desirable in this context, nor possible. One should by and far follow the policy of the good being the enemy of the best.

i AM NOT iNDIAn but I do wish to participate. We can lessen corruption by not giving employees any power to decide, or "fix" things up with the bosses. Transactions with offices should be computerized. No face to face or people transactions.

There are few things we can do to stop corruption.
1. DO NOT PAY ANY BRIBE TO ANY ONE COME WHAT MAY.
2. DO NOT SEEK FAVOURS.
3. DISCHARGE YOUR DUTIES AS CITIZEN.
4. EXPOSE THE WRONG THINGS FOUND HAPPENING, WHEN NOTICED.
5. IF YOU CAN NOT DO ANYTHING, AT LEAST GET DISTURBED INTERNALLY.
GOPAL.
