Really the only answer is to pay for what you can afford. You will definately need more RAM over processing power as this gives you the better speed increase.... 1Gig is advisable. Windows XP only supports dual core processing if you are performing more than one task at a time otherwise software has to be written specifically for dual core (you might still get a slight speed increase). However, if you can wait for Vista to be released on the 30th January you will get much better dual core support. If you go for this you definately need 1Gig of RAM and if you want Vista's new desktop you need to make sure your laptop has access to 128MB of graphics memory too. Suggested processors for laptops are Intel Core Duo, Core 2 Duo and AMD Turion X2, I would avoid Celeron M and Sempron based machines.

dual core is for loading a lot of images realllllllly fast, like when you're gaming. RAM will make single pictures that don't move load realllllly fast. So what you need is a half decent laptop and use the money to stock up on RAM and an external harddrive.

yes. but the most recent dual core processors tend to be more expensive. just this last Christmas, i planned to buy a laptop and i did buy but i bought one with AMD Turion 64 x2 (dual core) simply because it costs MUCH LESS than intel's core 2 duo and AMD processors are usually partnered with better graphics cards like nvidia and ati radeon where core 2 duo is usually partnered with intel's graphics media accelerator. core 2 duo is better because it's more advanced but amd turion 64 x2 is less expensive.

in case you're applying any photograph or video modifying application like Photoshop, Sony Vegas and so on, or run incredibly some classes at as quickly as to regulate between while working, then confident it particularly is going to. in case you're only after a computer for be conscious processing, surfing the internet and checking emails then I propose you purely save money and get the Pentium.
