Very rarely; interested perhaps, in an analytical way but on a personal level I am wary of spending too much time encouraging their gloom and doom. In the past, spending time with miserable people sapped my energy and drowned my own sense of joy. My support of them did nothing to improve their state of mind but when I withdrew from the scene, their self-righteous rage and obsessive blame, kicked them into a different version of their life script. As I wrote this, I felt old resentments comes to the surface, no I don't feel sorry for them and I think their obsession can be manipulative and destructive.

Depends... i feel sorry for the people who have the worst job and who face real bullying within the work place every day, but never give up because they have a family to provide for, and on this thought alone they keep on going eventhough they are miserable, But then again we should all try to make the best of a bad situation, and smile.

Hi, Everyone is not strong all of the time. When we have calamity or tragedy in our lives that we cannot control we become miserable. When in this state of mind we may need companions or a doctor to talk to. And temporary meds to calm us and help us get through the worst of it.
Some sweet person with a strong shoulder to help us through it. And when we have endured the worst of it, somehow the pain starts to ease some. It may take moments or weeks or years. They say time heals all wounds.
It is a provision Jehovah God instilled in most of us to cope with the unthinkable. ...the loss of a child...cancer....divorce....end of a career....expulsion...but we live through it all.
And we look forward to the future to rebuild our lives again after we thought it was over. Some however cannot endure the pain and commit suicide because they have become mentally ill.
But all in all life is good. We find pleasures of some kind in every day.
Life is worth living.

Nope. People make their own misery. I've delt with these people all my life. I figure, I could be in Iraq, or being tortured in China for being a women right? So I can't complain. I just let it go because whats the point right? I could go sulking around because my daddy never loved me and is telling everyone that I'm not his son, however, why bother. I just exclude it from my personal happiness. Because life is too short to be depressed all the time. We could die and find out we are just food being grown for a higher life form and that would suck. Or nothing at all. So smile while you still can!

Folk reap what the sow. A smile brings a smile, a scowl brings a scowl. Simple maths, but simple enough for some people.

Yes and No.
Yes because sorry keeps my heart soft, which is important so I don't lose touch with humanity but No because sorry does nothing to help that person. You have to 'will' yourself to overcome obstacles. This is sometimes hard, nevertheless its the reality. Only by taking action will you get results.
Remember sorry is an emotion and having little understanding of your emotion can thwart you from making the most realistic and logical decision.

Yes because sometimes it can't be helped. I can't fathom how people can walk around and say "life is what you make it" and expect everyone to be happy with what they are happy with or a variation there of. I don't feel sorry for people who choose to be miserable, i feel sorry for people who try not to be and still are.

I suppose it all depends on their situation. But misery is what you make and what you strive out of it. If people wallow on their misery and never make an effort to move on or to try to turn their life around...then no.
