we have a 1994 mazda 626, the engine has thrown a rod. is it better to part it out since it will be an expensive engine repair?

i once sold a car to a junkyard and got $20, not worth it. it is not our primary car, i just need to get rid of it

some people would put a ad in the auto trader and sell for parts in the ad it works because Ive done this.

It depends really. What is the car worth and how much will the engine repair cost you. Can you do the repair yourself? Is this car your only transportation....I will assume that this car is you only transportation and assuming it is in good shape other than the bad engine it would make more sense to repair the engine. I look at it like this...if you spend 1 thousand dollars on and engine change you most likely will not find a nice car for a grand. if you fix the engine you are out 1K, you don't have a car payment and you don't HAVE to carry full coverage, it seems more cost effective to me going this route.

Maybe find a local breakers yard and attempt the replacement your self?
