Racism is a form of ego-validation and power play and its' source is ignorance.
Britain has a nobility, an aristocracy, a ruling class, an upper class and at the top is the royal family. Underneath all them are the chattering masses of middle to lower classes. that's why racism is so entrenched in the UK. It's more classism.
And don't forget, India was once the 'jewel' of the British Empire. India was invaded by the Brits. and the legacy of that is seen on Big Brother.

There is a lot of racism in this country. Not just racism though, a lot of bigotry in general. I think it mostly boils down to xenophobia over immigration, since many people believe that immigrants are sponges on a system, when they have no right to (right being conferred by birth).
The reality of course, is different, but at the end of the day, perceptions are what drive human action, not reality.

Because unfortunately our education system spews out pig-ignorant thickoes like Jade by the thousand!
Also, and to be a tad more serious, I think the definition of 'Racism' has become more nebulous. We have a lot of legislation in place to prevent serious, institutionalised racism that was very common decades ago, so the term is more applied to the insidious, ignorant, fear based verbal slurs and insults as demonstrated by La Goody, and indeed by some of the people replying to this question!

I think racism is really sick. But I don't think its wise to portray all white Europeans/Americans as the bad Guys all the time.
Living in the inner city I've received alot of upfront racist abuse (I'm white English) from black/Asian people very unprovoked (although I meet so many nice ones aswell).
I think it should be treated as a human condition instead of focusing on "what group said what to who" because it is genuinely something that affects all creeds and colour.

I'd love to know where you get your facts from. Britain is one of the most ethnically diverse countries in the world. Racism is very limited. It does exist though and the worst I have heard has always been from blacks and aimed at Asians. Though I could be a racist. My black friend James came back from his holiday. I phoned him "Did you get a good suntan?" James: "Mate I'm so black I won't even talk to myself!"

I'm a jewish man married to a Filipina,my next door neighbour is Turkish and wonderful,I work for a French companywith,French,Welsh,German,Spanish and Polish drivers who are polite and nice chaps,,it is sad that a minority of people choose to be racist,,the sooner people learn to get along without using race, colour and creed and then and only then we could be called the human race,,according to Proffessor Stephen Hawkin,,the only way for mankind to survive is to finally leave this planet and travel to another star,,and my friends that will be a joint venture for all of us,,my point being,,I'm not a racist and personally I find big brother utter cobblers

Jade is the exception to the rule. Racism exists everywhere, but not as much as you suggest.
