The Eagles are likely one of the worst bands to ever be as successful as they've been in the past decades. They absolutely suck! Their lyrics are lame- "Hotel California" is weak on content and "Lying Eyes" is about as circular and displacing as toilet water flushing down the drain- and their music is uninspiring.

I can't believe they hold the most popular US album spot. I can think of about 50 better artists who deserve the honor. I'd never guess why so many folks like them. Maybe it was all the weed and coke?
That'd be like Dave Mathews Band being named best group of the 90's. Just doesn't seem fit even if they are popular and easy on the ears..

Well, I respectfully disagree with you.
I'm not a fan of the Eagles, but I certainly love some of their songs, including "Hotel California"!
Some of their other songs I like are :
-"One of these nights"
-"Desperado"
-"On the border".
It's all a matter of taste, I guess. (LOL, maybe there even are some groups we both like)

Yeah, I think they're pretty bad most of the time -- esp. the songs you mention. They both go ON and ON and ON! But I kind of like The Greeks Don't Want No Freaks (not one of their hits, to be sure) and a couple of their early songs are OK, But basically I agree.

mainstream isn't know for being "inspiring" its just a generally excepted genre the common man can relate to or enjoy. Its easy to understand, repetitve, and simplistic. Thats why its popular with the masses.
