Who, in your opinion, is the best classic rock singer?

classic rock, you ask?
this means stuff like:
The Beatles, Queen, The Rolling Stones, U2, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Bad Company, Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple, Aerosmith (etc)
and your singer doesn't have to be from those people. just classic rock.

I don't think I could give one award without an honorable mention...

Elton John, I think, is my favorite. He isn't my favorite in terms of "Which artist do you think is best on average", as he has some bad or atleast not 'good' tracks, but so he has a lot of really amazing songs.
Neil Young probably comes in second, for obvious reasons. ;) I wouldn't call David Bowie classic rock, but if somebody else is, that's going up there too. I think Mercury could bash Elton out of place, but I wouldn't call him classic rock, really..

Wow, there are a lot of great lead singers out there ...too many have passed away. Among them Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison could both really belt it out. Too many of the leads are more screamers than actual singers. So for number one, I will have to vote for someone who can do both but typically is overshadowed by the band for which he sings. That would be Roger Daltry of The Who. He can scream it and he can sing it. Best of all he is still alive and can still carry a tune!

Not sure what constitutes "Classic" rock, but I'd probably have to say David Bowie.
