You'd think by now we'd be ashamed of these problems instead of being ashamed of virginity. If broken families, STDs epidemics, and damaged emotions and relationships aren't enough motivators for a change then what is? Why don't people learn their lesson from the obvious? Sometimes even an oracle like myself gets baffled.

PopeJ you reak of ignorance. And of course not all sex is bad, that's where we all come from.

People don't need premarital sex to live. They need food, water, and sleep. This has been proven many times.

Clark T and BigWoodenhead listen to yourselves:
"this is the dumbest and most offensive question i have ever seen on yahoo answers. everything that you believe is absolutely incorrect. it is proven by science that i am correct and you are not. you should be reported. you are so uninformed and i pity your ignorance. BLAH BLAH BLAH."

actually, one could also argue that people would be more open and loving and more careful to practice safe sex.
Instead of abstence or free love .. we have our young still treading the dangerous ground of double standards and ignorance.
so young people bombarded with sexual messages from the media .. and yet will still not have the forthrightness to use birth control or to say no when appropriate, when relationship is not right or not ready.
I would agree with you in that also a young person gets information on how to put a condom on a bannana but not how one's feelings and one's life can be changed by what supposedly was "casual" sex.

I think that the problem of broken families cannot be entirely attributed to sexual morality, many people divorce for other reasons, such as money, changes in religious beliefs, changes in interests, growing apart due to maturity, pride, selfishness, physical abuse... etc. There are so many other aspects to divorces than sex (or the lack thereof)
To answer your concerns about STD's, you have to take into consideration the fact that sex is basically our function, aside from survival. Our entire body is wired only to find food, survive, and procreate. these are our three basic needs, they are undeniable needs and they must be met. The fact is that masturbation is not enough to satisfy sexual urges for forever and they cannot be repressed so people will take great risks to fill that need. It's like starving, if food were scarce, really scarce, extraordinarily scarce, and then frowned on by society people would do anything to get food. They would eat raw meat, they would eat rats and cockroaches and leather. They might even eat each other. That's the sexual world we live in. Some people will eat the cockroach because they haven't ever had food, some people will eat a rat because they haven't eaten in six months or because it's all that's around and they just have to risk getting whatever disease is inside that rat. Some people will eat the raw meat because they love it and don't think it has worms in it, but it does. So even if it is obvious that they will run the risk of getting an STD some people will take that risk because, regardless of what we are told, sex is a necessity and cannot be denied forever no matter how hard you try.

and i suppose you have the one, only, end-all definition for "moral?" you reek of ignorance for trying to claim that you do, which is exactly what you did through implication. there is no single definition for morality. the entire world cannot be held against one person's personal standard of morality. and don't say the Bible because that's too easy of an answer and requires no real thought. its lazy and a waste of brain power to just tell everyone who disagrees with you that they are immoral or going to hell. and don't think about calling me a heathen, atheist, or unchristian. i am christian, i believe in God and Jesus. i also believe that God gave me a brain, and i intend to use it to proactively and rationally.
introducing a problem without proposing a solution is called "whining." what is your proposed solution?
oracle- 4. a person who delivers authoritative, wise, or highly regarded and influential pronouncements. (if you were an oracle, you wouldn't need to ask this question. your argument is not wise as it makes one of the first errors of logical thought: you assume that your standard [morality] is correct while every other [Why don't people learn their lesson from the obvious?] is wrong.)
7. any utterance made or received as authoritative, extremely wise, or infallible. (nothing of what you said is any of the above.)

What is this "improved" you speak of? Granted, STDs are a bad thing (to most peoples' paradigms, anyway), but that doesn't necessarily mean SEX is a bad thing. Use a condom.
As for broken families, that's more a cultural issue than a sexual one.
EDIT: Well, at least I don't REEK of ignorance. Try not imposing YOUR morals on everyone else.
