My best friend's husband quit working for us and owes us $2500 for money he borrowed, $1000 of which was borrowed 3 days after he quit. The deal was he was to pay it back after he got his first check in full or work it off on his days off. He never called back or worked any of it off, so after 6 weeks I wrote an email and asked why hasn't he bothered calling, paying or working since he quit? His wife is my best friend and she avoided me also. In my email I reminded him of all of the good things we did for him...his job, helping out financially when needed, invitation for an all expense paid ski trip for he and his wife, paying for everything when we go out...etc and then told him the things he did wrong like not working overtime when we really needed him (1 week after he borrowed money the first time) because he was bbq for his family, missing a lot of work and lying on his timesheet about his overtime hours. His wife read the email and cursed me out and will not speak to me.

Well, a bit of both I guess. Maybe she's going through something really tough with him and she feels bad about the money and they need more time to get everything together.

Or, theyre just taking total advantage of you.

People that do things WRONG do react back to defend thenselves, marriad people sometime take on the badpoints of thier partner
Well he wasn't a great employie was he if he never helped out the company that he worked for with overtime or working when he is require
You never lost a friend because these people are users and always will be.
The only thing you did wrong was bring up his bad points when asking for the money back.
move on and learn that you are the emploryer so act like one and employ people that are willing to work

Some friend. You know she's just playing upset so she won't have to pay you back. And that's a lot of cash. I take it you didn't ask for no I.O.U., so your only chance of ever seeing some of that money back is keep asking her until she gets tired or embarrassed enough not to put up with it anymore. Or if you are the one who can't stand asking anymore, the way to look at it is, it costed you $2500 to get rid of those leeches.

Sue them. They are trying to avoid a debt and playing on your emotions (trying to turn things around so you become the bad guy) to get out of it. Tell them point blank in writing, pay me the money or I will take you to court. Then follow through.

Do you have evidence of giving him the money and that he was to pay it back? i'd take it further - see solicitor

#1 rule in life

Do not loan your friends or family members money.
If you do consider it charity, because it's a risk not worth taking.

I don't believe your wrong, she's overreacting. If he hasn't tried to change his ways, get on his case about it. He can eventually fix his problem.
