ADV. No gas. Read paper/book.. Meet people. Watch people. Watch scenery w/o having to watch the road. Cut down a little on traffic. Can also use bicycle with. Some are free on holidays.
DIS. Can be smelly. Some rude people. Sometimes late. Sometimes early. Crowded. Can't smoke. People bum money/smokes at stops. Need exact change.

Advantages: Cheaper than petrol, more environmentally safe, no searching for carparks, someone else is driving, can read own and other people's newspaper while travelling, less stress during traffic jams.
Disadvantages: The nutter on the bus who sits right beside you, rush hour, body odour, slippy floor when wet making you slip onto your rear, being late for work because the public transport workers are on strike, waiting flippin' ages in the pouring rain for a bus that should have arrived 10 minutes earlier... need I go on? LOL!
