See, I have an Iguana, its still a small one, yesterday i brought it out to my mom´s plants, and well, it bit on one of the " Nochebuena" plant leaf, taking a piece and eating it... anyways..... ironic enough today the plant was dieing. I was thinking it could be just a coincidence... or maybe the Iguanas have a parasite or something that could have infected the plant? I really dont know.... the possibilities of it being just a coincidence are high, but still...what a messy coincidence!!!

It's just a coincidence, but if you have alot of plants you should read this it tells you what plants are and are not poisonous to your Iguana.

The possibilty of an inguana killing a plant is highly probably since they are vegetarians. When the igunana climbed on the plant to take a bite he may have damaged/broke the stem to that part of the plant, hence its dieing.

Iguanas do not have bacteria or parasites in their saliva that kill plants - they just eat them, a leaf at a time. So I think that it was stem damage that caused the plant's decline.

You do need to "babysit" your iguana the entire time it is out of its cage. There are numerous plants that are TOXIC TO your IGUANA. So I don't recommend him nibbling on anything that is not in that basic repitoire of foodstuffs for him. Make sure his diet is complete in all required nutrients, because the biggest problem for young inguana's is developing metabolic bone diease.

By "Nochebuena", do you mean poinsettia? It's coincidence, at any rate. Your iggy couldn't infect a plant, and he'd have to eat more than one leaf (unless it was a very small plant) to kill it. It's normal for poinsettias to lose their leaves after flowering. You need to cut the plant back. Here's info of after Christmas care: http://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheets/HGIC1561.htm

One thing you should learn from this experience is to closely supervise what your iguana gets into. What if poinsettias were poisonous? Iguanas are vegetarians, and they're going to munch on any greenery they can. Please use this list and check what you should keep out of his/her reach.

i would never allow my iguana access to household plants. some plants are poisonous to different animals. ask a pet store who specializes in iguanas for their suggestion of any certain kind of plants that are okay. the iguana's nails are extremely sharp and will tear the leaves or the bark.
