It's called "passion", which is good. It means you are spiritually and physically and emotionally VERY alive. Some people do not have much passion, do not feel much and are not very alive. At one end of the spectrum of passion, though, it gets violent. We all have the potential for violence and savagery within us. When people insult us, especially when we have high passion, we feel that violence within ourselves. It throbs and roars in our ears and makes our blood boil. But, on the OTHER side of the spectrum of passion, is the extraordinary joy of compassion and tolerance and understanding. As soon as I feel that throb of violent reaction to insults within myself, I take a deep breath and close my eyes for a moment and regain my goodness. With lots of practice and experiences that challenged me, I can now let go of my violent feelings much more easily than when I was younger. It takes practice and faith in yourself that it's natural to feel violence but that you are a decent and sensible creature who wants peace MUCH more than a vile moment of violence.

it's an instinct in humans to react when insulted, but it's better to use our brains and judgement, that was differentiates us from animals

I'll mostly play deaf !...in Egyptian "hanaffad"...even if I could beat him up I wouldn't..
BUT, sometimes I'd strike him in the face or kick him unconscious if the insult refered to certain stuff you know !

you should first to ignore him then you try to find a third party to warrant such an insult and try to go away from him
