I'm glad Dusty is gone!!!!!! I realize it is the Cubs but how far do you see this team going?

For the Cardinal fans, lets not forget the Cubs beat the Cardinals up last season with that pathetic team they had, getting 11 of there 66 wins against them. The Cubs will certainly be improved but I think theres been a lot of money spent on average players. I think it's such a different team its hard to say. They've got a stronger bullpen and offensively they're looking good, but starting pitchers is the big question mark. They'll contend but the Cardinals still may take the division with the Cubs finishing second, possibly getting the wild card.

If you stop drinking the Tribune Co. Kool-Aid for a minute, you'll realize that the Cubs haven't improved the area they neede the most help in;pitching.Zambrano is their best pitcher, but he is starting to complain about his contract situation.Since we both know how emotional he is,will that effect him negatively?Wood has been on the DL for so long that he should need to show his ID before they let him in the players entrance. And he really hasn't done much when he wasn't on the DL.Prior is a big question mark(no pun intended)Before his injury was finally revealed ,he was getting shelled with great regularity. So they overpaid to get Ted Lilly - a career .500 pitcher as their number 2 starter. He is a number 5 on any team thinking playoffs.Jason Marquis? Why do you think LaRussa didn't use him in the Cardinals playoff run?And how did that work out for St.Louis? If Dave Duncan, one of the best pitching coaches didn't think enough of him to lobby for him, what makes you think it will be different for the Cubs?Rich Hill?In his big league experience,he got spanked like a naughty puppy. And who in the heck is Wade Miller? Not any Cy Young candidate, that's for sure.
I could go on about the bullpen, but there is no need to add insult to injury.Your first statement was your best.Dusty Baker was not the right guy.Lou Pinella was a good manager when he had the Reds and Yankees, but remember that his last stop was in Tampa Bay and he didn't exactly turn them around. He is only as good as his teams and this team will have to find a way to overcome its lack of pitching.Sorry,Cubs fans, not this year(again).

Sorry, but the Cubs gotta long way to climb. Even though they made some great moves, spent a lota bucks and got Sweet Lou as manager, they'll have too much to overcome. They also didn't address their main need: pitching. When the Cubs get some descent pitchers they might have a chance. Not this year though. Oh, and by the way, give the goat an apology!!!

I see this team going to fourth place. The Cubs only have a chance if Prior gets healthy and recaptures the magic. Not likely.
Zambrano is a fine pitcher. After that, you have Rich Hill, who has never pitched a full season in the major leagues. And you have three guys who suck in Ted Lilly, Jason Marquis and Wade Miller.

The contracts Hendry gave Lilly and Marquis will cripple the franchise's payroll structure for years to come. Both of those guys are .500 pitchers at best. Lilly is a fly-ball pitcher who better pray the wind blows in a lot this season.

NL Central
1. Cardinals
2. Astros
3. Brewers
4. Cubs
5. Reds
6. Pirates

Well I think it's going to take a couple year's for the team to have some chemistry. I see them finishing in second in the Central. I think the Astro's will take first. Cubs will be good as long as everyone stays healthy. The pitching staff is the big problem!!!

I think they have improved dramatically, and will give St Louis a good solid run for their money. You cannot discount Houston either. I think it will go down to the wire, and hopefully The Cubs will take it The NL by storm.

I am pulling for The Cubs 111% this year (vice the 110% I usually pull for them).

I'd love to see Alan Trammell be on a winning team again.

Being a Yankee fan, but also a Buffalo Bill fan, I can easily distinguish between triumphs and failures. I hope that your team is successful and feel that the Cubs will provide alot of entertaining baseball for the 2007 season. After all, it's what the game is all about.

Sweet Lou, himself, will provide much of that. Good luck and much success to your team.

i really hope that it does make a difference but if it doesn't then big deal next year will be the year. i really do think that what the cubs r doing will be enough to win the central and make it to the world series.

I think with Lou in the Dugout and Soriano (SP) in the line-up. I think that Cubs will win the Central, Finally win the NL and after 99 Years, WIN IT ALL!

I don't think they will have enough to make the playoffs, much less win the central. Soriano will be huge, but the pitching is such a question mark that I refuse to believe Prior and Wood won't be on the DL this year.
