Destroying those around them?
Ohhhhhh, yeah. Not only met some, but my brother (Mommy's first born and the baby of the family) is so like that.
Belittling themselves into thinking they're no better than they actually could be?
My second brother (the one in the middle; I'm the youngest)
tries to do his best, but at times, he's convinced no matter what he does, he's not as good as he really is.

It isn't that they want to destroy intelligence, per se., it's that they want to destroy anyone that disagrees with their own point of view. They don't consider that the others HAVE any intelligence.
All religions do this, that's why they're all so dangerous and are behind all wars...Iraq, as we speak.
Intelligence is being able to completely disagree with someone, yet not have it affect your relationship.
Ignorance is getting enraged as soon as you realize the other person doesn't share your views.
If the scientific world did this, there would never have been any progress and we'd all still be suffering with terrible diseases and living in deplorable conditions.
It takes cooperation to make the world a better place.

Yes George and Barbara Bush clearly destroyed their son's GW's intelligence? Ha ha ha
Actually yes I have those out there that are bigots for what ever reasons, haters, and they also like to give wrong info to dissuade the people from getting smart. Like the media does all the time. Kill the intelligence you kill their dreams or the spirit to aim for higher and create. Third world countries are always infamous for that look at Iraq? or other countries that are similar? Earlier in this statement up above Duh? ha ha ha ha I said I had those people ha ha no I don't have them out there but they are out there, and I wish we could really have them all wrapped up in a net and stuck in a looney bin where they could get the right meds.ha ha ha ha

Yes, Most people who do this are weak and insecure, they feel as though they can never measure up to their full potential so they try to destroy what little intelligence is around them. Therefore looking wise themselves. Just tell them if they try you know they have all this knowledge within too.

My ex boyfriend was like that. He felt that people who had a vocabulary that included words over 4 letters, "are just trying to sound like they are smart". It's people like that who are dumbing our society down to the point where we are dealing with the Jerry Springer epidemic.
