seriously...those of you that don't know anything about baseball need to not answer so this guy gets legit responses!!!!! YES, you can slide in to first base. the only strategically reasonable situation is when a ball is incoming above the first baseman's head or out of his reach and he misses the base, forcing him to have to tag you. it is much more difficult for him to tag you if he has to bring his glove/ball down 5-6 feet rather than if he can just turn and tag you if you are running past him.

Yes you can slide into first base in professional level baseball. But why would you slide and lose speed if you could just continue running through the base.

Yes, you can slide both head and feet first. But they say it takes more time to slide than to run it out. You see people dive head first every once in a while. Several times I can say I have seen players slide feet first tying to avoid a tag from a pitcher or first baseman but never trying to just beat out a play

YES YOU CAN ! and I've done it, AND GOTTEN ON BASE ! If you hit the ball, or if it is thrown to the first baseman, and he is off the infield side a bit TOO much, I have beaten the first basemans swipe at a tag, or just beat him out to the base, YOU CAN catch him sleeping, thats why you ALWAYS run as hard as you can to first base, even if it looks like the ball is going to beat you, you never know, he might drop the ball, we've all seen it, If the second baseman catches the ball, and block the base from the runner, the runner has FULL RIGHT to knock the baseman on his @ss to get to the base, it's ok to blast him, and make him drop the ball, if he is blocking the base.

Yes..You can slide but why would you?
Sliding actually slows you down. Sliding for 2nd & 3rd is done so you don't overrun the base or to avoid a tag out.

You can slide into first base or any base.
Pete Rose used to slide into first at times claiming he got there faster on a close call.

Yes you can, but it's not the most effective. Some say it slows you down. The ones who do usually slide head first. Robbie Alomar was a pro of doing it.

It is legal to slide into first, but it doesn't happen very often. It slows a runner down hitting the dirt. Most slides are head first. If you're fast, and are trying to beat the throw, stay on your feet.

Yes, you can. But a runner should only slide into first to avoid a tag.

Yes you can slide into first, but only head first if the the runner was coming from home plate. If the runner was at first and is trying to get back to the bag he can go head first or feet first, this is more common when pitchers try to hold a runner at first from stealing second, but also happens when the runner at first is trying to avoid being the second part of a double play from a pop up.
