My friend got caught shoplifting makeup and turned over some of it..not everything. she even lied and signed a piece of paper saying that is all she stole. she got in trouble for what she stole and has to pay a hundred times the total theft but no charges. do they review the tapes and could get her in trouble for stealing that other stuff if they happen to notice? could they call the cops and track her down for it, since they have all her info in a database? she is worried about that.

I think she needs to be more worried about why she was compelled to shoplift in the first place. Since it was makeup, and not food, I have to say that it could not be because she was hungry.

Most likely the store she stole it from is not trying to get her for more, they just wanted to teach her a lesson, and considering (which I do not know) the price of items involved, they probably still made more than the amount of the goods stolen, since you say she paid 100 time the amount of the goods, which by the way, is still a lot cheaper than if they had called the cops.

Because they chose to handle this situation themselves, I do not believe they are about to take to the cops that they let someone go without checking their tapes to see exactly what she stole. Besides, most places only review the tapes, when there is a huge amount of theft involved, that is unaccounted for.

Hope this answers your question.

I doubt your friend has anything to worry about, as far as them going Through the "tapes", more than generally they aren't going to waste their time with that... it's tedious. If she doesn't pay the money assessed to her, she will be charged criminally, and will have to pay more (retail fraud).
Being female, I know make up is pricey, but look at how much it's costing her now.... and she didn't even get to keep it to use it.. your friend isn't the brightest crayon in the box... maybe you should find a different group of buddies.

YES.. Go to jail! She is lucky they did not file charges. A person with a record of shplifting will NEVER get a decent job..what was she thinking??!! She is lucky because they probably will not persue it any further but she is plain DUMB .. why would you want to do something stupid like this and risk a criminal record that will follow you the rest of your life!!!
