I know wearing a suit is just a bit over the top for a Research Assistant position.

For a male student. I know wearing a suit is a bit over the top. In that case, what should I wear?

I would dress no more than business casual. I'm a grad assistant at UNLV and the Graduate coordinator was far more concerned with my undergrad. GPA, my GRE and GRE subject test scores than how I dressed. I'm in the English Dept. so I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but it's a universtiy--very liberal with dress and more concerned with what you know and what you can contribute to the project(s).

Try to look semi-professional. Don't dress like you're going to a party or to an early morning class. But dress has very little to do with it. Read up on the research that the professor does so you can ask intelligent questions and have an idea of what you might be doing.

What sort of attire do you see in that department? Go have a look at it; watch the people. Some departments are very casual: t-shirts and jeans. Some are dressy. Look like you'll fit in, but as a previous poster said, just a little bit better, since it shows respect for the position.

I've read that you should dress for an interview the way you would for the job, but one step up. For that reason, a suit would be fine.

Hi !!!

I think you should wear a dark color dress, with a black blazer. Black medium heel shoes.

Simple accessories, and a compose serious but approachable attitude.

GOOD LUCK, GOD BLESS YOU & HAPPY LIFE

A pair of tailored trousers (navy or black, maybe even gray might do), ice blue shirt, and matching coat or jacket. Pay attention to socks (black) and shoes (clean, black, if possible new).
