Definitely don't go around gossiping and bad-mouthing the person. Even if you're absolutely right and everyone agrees with what you say, your reputation will still be the one that is ultimately damaged from that. Always resist the temptation to get sucked into any office gossip or politics.
Best to try to avoid the person. Depending on exactly what they're doing, and if they're your superior, you may be able to say something like, "Sure, Bob, I'll be happy to help you with that, but I wish you'd ask me like . It feels like a put down when you say it like that."
If that doesn't work, you can talk to your boss. But don't go in like you're telling on the person. Instead, say you need advice on how to handle a situation that you haven't been able to resolve on your own. And when you're describing the problem, explain it in terms of how it is a problem for the workplace in general and the company, not a problem for you.

If it is someone who is actively mean and intentionally does hurtful things, you may have grounds to submit a complaint to your boss under something called 'hostile work place' or something to that effect. If it's just someone who just isn't nice or is uncooperative, I would just let it go unless they are actually creating problems that keep you from getting your required work done.
If it's someone that just isn't very nice, take heart in knowing they probably will be stuck where they are for a long time. While you may not always think so, bosses notice a lot and they know who is doing a good job and who is not.
Also, try just being nice all the time. You don't have to bake them cookies or anything, but make a point of saying 'hi' and 'have a nice weekend'. If you do bake cookies for the office, offer some to that person before anyone else. It's entirely possible that it's someone with something else going on in their life and you just being nice could make a difference.

If its your boss, better look out for new opportunities.. if its someone else, just ignore him. You may also look out for an option to work online to make extra cash in your spare time. I am a part time worker doing work online at home, so I would like to share a link where you can make $600-$1500 in a month working at home. The work need to be done is posting/answering a discussion and uploading any photo/image of your interest. For details visit
http://ommc.blogspot.com
I will publish few more genuine site in couple of weeks, where you can earn money. You may also write to me at talkofmoney@rediffmail.com (Note: When u are planning for a home based online work, be careful because most of them are scam and ask you to pay initial money. never pay money to any such site.)

that my dear is very true , some one needs to tell them whats there problem or tell the boss in a private matter cause if you dont it wont go away i have seen this at my job this past couple of months and i feel for that poor new girl i'm getting ready to complain about her or confront her thats not right no one deserves that it's like a school bully we are all just trying to make a living but please report her or him they are full of jealousy .what ever you talk to your boss or manager about is supose to be confidential only between you and him and he cant say who told him what cause that would only make matters worse ,so if he's a good boss he will take care of the matter i'm sure if he knew this was happening he'd do something about it . good luck

Stand up to them. In a clear and confident voice tell them the way they treat you is unacceptable and you are not going to take it any longer. Tell them that if they have a problem with you to get it out into the open.
Most mean people will back down if confronted directly. They are usually only mean because the person they are mean to just takes it.

Make sure of one thing first
is that person just mean to you or to everyone else(or to most people)?
If that person is mean to most people, don;t worry, you just try to avoid him/her and work smart, don't make mistake.
If that person is mean only on you very personally, think about how his position relates to yours, what is the conflict of interest?
think how many friends will be with him when you fight him? and how many will be on your side? but be carefuly, most people they hide away, and try not to get involved. Evaluate if you show him how tough you are, would you be hurt? is it better not to cause open fire? or it is better to be in peace. how does your boss will see this?
My personal suggestion is, it is better to remain peace, show him a little bit of unexpected toughness, then stop, and show your friendliness. It is always not goo to have enemy at work anytime. and I believe most people want to go to work happily and get off work happily, so, it's your decision, use your wiseness.

At workplace, you will always find different personalities.
You cannot change them but manage them with your
interpersonal skills.
In your case, be pleasant / get close to find out more
about the person.
In this way, win the perosn over.

It's very simple: ignore! People who try to annoy u will get bored this way and will leave u alone.
