Personally, I've never gotten over the killing of John Lennon.
I think that was the biggest event of the late 20th century. I think John Lennon was entering a renaissance period, and there is no telling how he would have changed rock music and society altogether.
If there was a God, John Lennon would never have been shot.

About the 9/11 thing... yeah that was messed up, but did you ever realize more people in America die from smoking cigarettes every week than the entire number of people killed in 9/11? Not to talk bad about the dead, but the people who died in the WTC were a bunch of bloodthirsty cut-throat junk bond traders and speculators, not your grandmom.

I'm 53 and was very much influenced by the Beatles and John Lennon while growing up. However, by the time he was murdered, his impact on youth, western society and pop culture had pretty much run its course.
I think that my biggest disappointment in the evolution of popular music was the advent of rap and the far too long of a run it has had. Rap is crap.
In terms of important human events ... the debacle of The Vietnam War. So many people were killed and America's reputation was greatly tarnished.
I regret giving so much of my time and youthful energy to corporate America. Loyalty was a one way street for them ... my loyalty. They gave very little in return.

You give me some interesting facts. Think the most F'd thing I can think of was stupid Bush going to war in Iraq. Look at all the poor people that have been killed and our brave troops that have died. But it's a long way from over there is a civil war going now and the American government will not admit it, but there is much more blood shed to come.

well, john lennon's killing was one of the most awful things to happen. the man was a musical genius alongside paul mccartney and others. but for me it was when i was young and got involved in a terrible accident that left me scarred for life. i cannot recall how it happened because i was so young at the time but that f*d me up pretty badly. there were other things that screwed and messed up my childhood and teen years, such as the bullying. yet i have massive scar on my belly, which is so f*d up, its unbelievable. other things i would mention is bush and blair invading iraq and africa still in poverty to this day and age, to name amongst others.

I was going to say Bush and all the incredibly stupid acts he has done, but all generations have their Iraq War. Yes, it's incredibly horrible and Bush is the worst person in the world right now, but I'd have to say the most F*d up thing that has happened in my time, something that REALLY messed me up, was the Columbine shootings.
I did nothing but watch the news the entire time that whole thing was going on. I was depressed and sick and just awe stuck that things like that can happen in our world. Things like that could happen to anyone of us. At any time. That's frightening.
And the aftermath of the shooting really mad me crazy mad. All the blame on rock music and video games. That's just passing the blame onto something much easier to hate. And I completely and utterly believe that young people who commit acts of violence are NOT influenced by the music, movies or video games they interact with.

At first, I thought that my father dying was the end for me. For three years, I was pretty p_ssed off at God for taking him from me. But then, I moved back home to help my mom take care of the house and what not. Before I knew it, I met someone, fell in love, got married and seven years later we have two great kids. I think my dad wanted it that way.
But TRUST me chief. John Lennon would not have given two sh_ts about you or me. Yeah, yeah, yeah the music and what not. Big deal. You don't think that he eventually would have been elected president and that you would have lived the rest of your days in a psychodelic world utopia, do you? He was just another guy who happened to be a singing hippie.

I guess that John Paul the second's death marked me the most.
He was a wonderful man, a pacifier. Firstly, he was one of the first to oppose communism (in Europe). His efforts finally put an end to communists. Besides, he always tried to keep peace between the religions: he was the first ever pope to enter a mosque.
He was and extraordinary man, and his death was a big loss for humanity.

Do you mean personally, or historically, or generationally, or what? There's lots of stuff in my life that I consider F-ed up. As for the God thing, I'm not so sure about that-- God didn't shoot Lennon, some moron who shall remain nameless did for reasons I will not repeat here.
Lennon may not have been so legendary or his work so now treasured had he NOT been shot. It's all in your perspective.
