I installed Avast! 4 Home 3 days ago & I discovered that it has an on-access scanner running all the time. WIll it slow down the performace of my laptop during its operation?

It has eight different on access scanners, you can keep only those which you think you need and can disable others.

I have been using Avast for years and have never had any problems at all. What you are seeing is real time scanning and it does not "slow down" your computer. Avast is in my opinion the best there is. I install it on all of my friends computers and they are very happy with it and the job it does.
