Why can't people spell? If you already online, then you have easy access to a dictionary.

I once got warned for chastising (yes, I used a dictionary to make sure I spelled that right...how crazy...) someone for their idiotic spelling.

I hope the literacy rate or intelligence rate of america is not represented by those on yahoo answers.

Yes, you are right. Many of us feel that way.

However, you must be extremely careful to have everything correct yourself when you post a question like this. You have written "If you already online" instead of "you're" and you have no initial capital for "America" and "Yahoo Answers".

Some people have always had problems with spelling, grammar and punctuation; unfortunately too many of them now have access to a computer and an Internet connection.
It seems technology has harmed rather than helped in a lot of cases and it started with calculators. Nowadays kids can't solve simple math problems without using a calculator and text messaging (on cell phones) has promoted the use of those horrible abbreviations.
I fear technology is spawning a generation of barely-literate people, people who no longer take pride in spelling correctly or composing a well-crafted sentence.

It's sad that I'm not old enough to legally have a job, and I still type more correctly than many of the older yahoo users. :/

Oh man, if the literacy rate of America was represented by the internet world...
The sad thing is, who's to say it isn't, necessarily?

You've got to take it one day at a time. Don't think about quitting forever; do whatever you need to do to stay off today (or tomorrow). Keep doing so...wean yourself off gradually. Do not substitute this addiction for another...start doing some of the things you did before Y! Answers......

I know. Its like English is many of these peoples second language. The most annoying I've found is the use of initials for words like U for you. I guess some people just don't take advantage of all the resources they do have.

No kidding... I just came across a questioner who had spelt 'ridiculous' as 'ridulaus'...! One of the answerers then spelt it 'ridculus'...!!! Nice to know there're others out there who do still care about spelling.

I don't find it as bad when it's a simple typo, or just slang/sms language like 'coz' for 'because' et cetera. But it does drive me nuts when people mix up 'their' 'there' and 'they're' and things like that. I mean, this is simple enough for me to understand even though English is my second language... I just don't get it...

Seeing as how there is a spell check, it isn't just nerve wrecking, it's sad.
