Palestinians would have had their own state in 1948, had the armies of five "peace-loving" Arab nations not invaded Israel on the day of its independence and tried toe "push the Jews into the sea". Since that time, there have been countless attempts to broker a peace which allowed for a Palestinian state. Israel has acquiesced to 99% of Arab demands, but the Arabs always find that one last thing which they know Israel will reject, thus giving them the ability to play the martyr yet again. Perhaps one day, the Palestinians will get serious about finding peace and gaining independence. Israel is more than ready for this to happen. All that is required is the recognition of Israel's right to exist and to defend herself.

The entire area was Israel to start with. After the Romans took over they renamed it "Palestine"and the Jewish population dissipated.Palestine is a variation of the word Philistine as in Goliath and the Philistines.
All of modern day Israel and Jordan was barley inhabited swampland after World War Two.It was legally the property of the United Kingdom. This being the case, the Jews started moving in and rehabilitating the land into a habitable place. The Arabs started moving in after that for jobs and such since the Jews had made it once again a decent place to live.
Of course the wonderful religion of Islam dictated that they could not coexist. After a lot of whining 80% of the land was handed over to the Arabs. This land is now called Jordan. Now they want to further carve up the remaining land to once again pacify the Muslims.
It is Israel getting screwed here, not the "Palestinians".

Do they *deserve* their own state? No.
Would I accept a Palestinian state if it would lead to genuine peace between it and Israel? Yes.
Do I believe that will actually happen if there was one? Considering the current facts on the ground, absolutely not.
The facts on the ground would have to radically change for me to consider otherwise.
I also agree with the Sharansky position that a Palestinian state would only be peaceful if it were a genuine democracy. And BTW, voting for Hamas does not constitute a genuine democracy.

They are not being ruled by Israel. Israel wants them to have their own state as stipulated in the UN edict of 1947. Hammas, Fatah and Hezbollah will tear the Arabs apart before they can have their own state. If the Arabs were smart (as they once were 1,500 years ago) they would sit down and draw up a peace agreement with Israel and then both countries would live in peace. However, the Arabs have been killing and fighting everyone including themselves for centuries so this will probably never happen. Too bad because the world would sigh with relief if this actually did happen.

Fair is fair. I think they should create a Palestinian state. The problem is, how are you ever going to keep peace with them being right next to Israel? That region will never see peace. Everyone wants to avenge themselves on each other for all of eternity.

Let us see should Tibetans own their own state, should Scots be ruled by England, should Timor belong to Timorese or to Indonesia, should people stay where they belong rather than invade, pillage and conquer and create all kind of problems. Why don't we ask the Palestinians if they want to be occupied and dispossessed

Palestinians never had their own state. Israel wants them to have it, but they need to stop trying to kill Israelis, too.
And it was Israel long before 1947
