I'd like to update my notebook's graphics, but my friend says its impossible....is there any way?

My notebook has xp home, 512mb ram, and 1.9Ghz Celeron processor

the problem is you computer graphic chip is on board (part of the motherboard) that is what integrated means so in order to upgrade you would need to install a new motherboard with a higher spec graphics chip, that could be very expensive, meaning motherboard, cpu and memory, that is if you could get one to fit your system

Sadly, no, you cannot upgrade your laptop.. Laptops are not like desktops with simple upgrades. You can generally only upgrade the hard drive and ram.. speaking of which that IS something you can do!
It won't be like a new graphics card (even a cheap one is a step up usually from integrated!), but putting in a faster spinning hard drive with quicker access time, along with maxing out your RAM will cause a general improvement including graphics! Defragmenting your hard drive will also help.. anything to reduce access times.
Good news is that integrated graphics uses LESS power than a dedicated power card.. so your laptop will last longer on batteries!
