A few years ago Consumers Reports ranked the Fords and Chevy's a tie for first. They admitted that each had their different strengths and weaknesses, but overall were tied for first. Now, a few years later, there are trucks that are better than either. But, I think that it is still true that the two still have their relative strengths and weaknesses, but neither would be clearly better than the other.

I work in a garage, and I see very few Ford trucks, and the ones I do see are for maintance/inspections. I have done maybe 15 repairs on Ford trucks in the last year. I do however see many Chevrolet trucks for a varity of problems. I get on average 3 a week for something big. I personally drive a Ford, but I was looking for a Dodge. In my opinion, Chevrolet trucks are a very nice truck, but they are also very technically advanced over Ford. With that being stated, there is a larger margin for problems. In my opinion, I would stick with the most basic truck out there. Mine is an 1989 Ranger with the 2.9L and 5 speed. Everything is manual, hand crank windows, manual locks. The only option my truck has that made it "advanced" was the rear sliding window. I see Chevrolet truck in the shop all the time for electrical problems. I have never owned a Chevrolet truck, but I know people who do, and some swear by them, and others say that they wish they bought another brand. Take both out for a test drive and see what you like better. Just remember, the more options, the more to go wrong.

I like the Ford body styles better so Fords are better in my opinion. I think they are also slightly more mechanically sound. The only downside is the styles changed many times for the Ford trucks - making older replacement parts an issue in some cases - while parts from a 1950's Chevy could fit up to a late 90's Chevy. Even if the parts from the older model don't fit the new one, every auto parts store and their brother has Chevy parts. I think it is a complete wash between the two. It all depends on your preferences. The Chevy/Ford rivalry probably started with two brothers and one said, "My truck is better than yours." The other brother said, "No, my truck is better." This is still where we are at today so I doubt it will ever change.

Tough question. They are both very well engineered vehicles, and both known for lasting a long time. Don't be persuaded to buy one over the other just because one claims it has "the longest running vehicle" or the "highest sales for 10 years". Chevy trucks keep going (older ones) because the parts are so cheap to acquire. A rebuilt engine may only cost $500. Ford may sell more trucks because their new truck prices are cheaper. Counterpoint, chevy claims to have higher resale values, since their trucks cost more in the beginning. I've owned both in the past and loved both in the past. I would choose older trucks over newer ones just because they are easier to repair. If you're certain about checking reliability ratings on specific years and models, try consumer reports or autos.msn.com . Hope this info helps you.

ford started it all the made the first v8, ford has always been ahead of its time, ford was the first company to get rid of wood structured bodys in 1932 chevy didnt till 36 chevy never made a v8 till the mid 50's, ford beat Ferrari 4 years running in the 24 hours of le mans , ford made two engines banned from nascar for being to fast the 427 hemi over head cam (SOHC) and the hemi boss 429. chevys famous small block has 1950's engineering Siamese exhaust ports and straight angled spark plugs (less power) while ford has angled plugs shooting the spark straight into the combustion chamber. chevys distributor in the back is just a pain to change wires modules etc.

Ford is actually a more reliable truck than Chevy. Over the past decade or more the Chevy truck has been more repair prone. Toyota is another fine truck, more, reliable than both Ford or Chevy combine. I have a cousin who worked for Toyota and he said that the only vehicle that Toyota could not compete with was the Ford line of truck. I know Ford has the best diesel truck on the market, that none of them can match as far as power and torque. Sometime most of this talk about who is better, Ford and Chevy better be looking over their shoulder, because the foreign company are gunning for there trucks now, since they have the market on the cars. Ford? Chevy? Sometimes this is just preference of the person and kinda what grandpa and dad drove. Check comsumer reports and you will find out who and what trucks are the most reliable brands.
