It really depends on which part of the country your from and more importantly what school you were in. Some schools are better then others. The scary part though is the number of Americans that don't even know their own history or even the National Anthem.
The American education system has a number of flaws, and much like everything else in this country the areas with more money have the better schools while the less influent areas tend to have poorer education systems.
For instance my High School had several courses on World History and Culture. A good friend of mine went to a school in another part of the country where they only taught American History.

For my school, the social studies classes are in this order chronologically: World Geography, World History, and US History.
It depends on what classes your school district decides to have. I personally find World History much more interesting than US History alone.

The focus is on American history. Their may touch on world history, but it isn't looked at in any real detail. If anyone is really interested in studying other countries their is usually world history classes they can take.

it is something you are able to could desire to ask somebody at your college. Does your college supply a greek mythology type? whilst you're purely in 8th grade and additionally you do no longer decide to be taught something greater approximately American historic past, the suitable answer i will supply you is tough success. you will in all danger could desire to take yet another 3 hundred and sixty 5 days of yank historic past in intense college and additionally you in all danger won't be in a position to alter your type at this element. purely suck it up and be chuffed which you already understand the stuff so gaining knowledge of it lower back isn't so stressful. in case you truly must be taught greek mythology, you need to examine it on your guy or woman.

We learn about other countries too, like Russia, Italy, Germany, China, Africa, etc. Some people just don't retain the information.

in my high-school experiance the only required social classes were about american history and/or government. there were other selectives but not only were they bias, but not very exact. blame the weakly american education system.
