If you've got bald genes you're going to go bald no matter what. I'm 33 and have almost no hair on top of my head. I never wore a hat until I had to start because I didn't have enough hair to protect my scalp. Baldness is hereditary and I have never heard any real evidence to suggest wearing a hat will make someone go bald. Now there might be something to the idea that if you're going to go bald, wearing a hat frequently might speed up the process. But I think even that would be suspect.
I also want to add that while clothing, hats, and jewelery may rub away the hair from certain parts of the body, this hair will usually grow back if allowed to. When a man starts going bald, the hair does not grow back.

it's an old wive's tale that hats cause baldness. if you're going to lose hair it'll happen whether or not you wear a hat, or pants, or eat bread with the crust still on...
from the link below:
Q: Will wearing hats make you go bald? I've been wearing baseball caps almost my whole life and am constantly being told that it will cause me to lose my hair.
Is this true?
A: No. There has been no evidence (in my research) that wearing a hat will cause anything more traumatic to your hair than a case of "hat head". That being said, depending on the construction of the hat in question, you could see some breakage or damage resulting from exposed elastic, or plastic components in the hat. Even coarse material can "rough up" the hair, causing damage.
second link:
Hats? No. The high school baseball team was never known to be the baldest team in school. Hat's do not cause hair loss.

Well, my husband's socks have rubbed the hair right off his legs. Seems to reason that if you were to wear a hat constantly, it might do the same thing.

Well, common sense tells you that it is so. If you constantly rub a place, you're going to lose hair there. Look at mens legs above the shorts line; they've rubbed off a good deal of their hair with their boxers! I know, odd example- but you get the point!
