On the October 20 edition of SmackDown, the rivalry finally ended as Chavo defeated Rey Mysterio in a "I Quit" match after hanging Rey upside down and repeatedly battering on Mysterio's exposed knee, using the RAW stage set. This storyline provided an on-camera explanation for Mysterio's real-life knee surgery, said to sideline him 3 to 4 months.
San Diego has a Smackdown event in Febuary, maybe he shall make a surprise return there. Seeing it would of been 4 months since his surgery,
p.s. the I Quit Match wasn't the reason why he got hurt but a way for him to take time off as the paragraph states above.

I think he will come back, but to RAW. He has always been on Smackdown and alot of the time after a long rehab, they will have the superstar change brands to build a bit more excitement. Also after Wrestlemania, they will probably have a Draft/Trades again. That would be a good way for Rey to switch brands and Smackdown to get some stars also

He's set to return sometime around February or March. He had knee surgery in October or November and it was said that he would be out for about 4 months.
There are rumors that Rey's contract expires sometime in the middle of this year and that Kurt Angle (who is one of Rey's best friends in real-life) is trying to get him to sign with TNA when it expires.

well, he did quit, those were the rules of the match. so if he doesnt switch to Raw or Ecw, we'll just have to wait till he recovers from his injury.
