I was wondering if ballet is something that you have to start at a young age or if its possible to start being older. I'm 18, I dance jazz, lyrical, hip-hop, but would love to give ballet a try. Any advice would be great.

Usually ballet is something kids start at a very young age, like elemenary school, but why not give it a try anyway. You have the advantage of all of the other training and ballet is really good for your body. You would probably advance really quickly at first. Give it a try. What have you got to lose.

Don't worry about the age hun, you'll be great. I took ballet when I was five, then my mom pulled me out and I didn't go back till I was nine. I'm sixteen now and I'm starting a school for highschool students who've never taken ballet before. Although children's minds are a bit more flexible, I think 18 is definoutly not too late. Your brain is still pretty young. I wish some of my friends had the confidence to take lessons from me, because I really beleive in them and I think they can do it. Ballet does take dedication, and you'll build some strong muscles if you work hard at it, but hey if anything else, it'll be good for you, it's a healthy activity so please try it out and see how you like it.

DEFINITELY you can learn ballet at any age. Ballet is the foundation for ALL other types of dance. ANY good teacher will tell you that it increases flexibility and body control. It may not ALWAYS be the most fun class because there is a LOT of technical work to it, but the hard work will greatly pay off and you will see an improvement in the other styles of dance.
Even many football coaches require their players to take ballet.
There are many advantages for athletes who participate in ballet classes as part of their sports training including increased flexibility, body control, and injury prevention. The exercises done in a ballet class run parallel to the muscles that need to be stretched and strengthened for a football player. Check out the story below.

I took ballet. I started at age 7. To be a ballerina you must start out that young but for all other types of dance it is essential to learn, so you look good on stage.

If you want to be a dancer in theatre, taking ballet at the age of 18 is fine. It will help you improve on what you have already learned.

Isay, do it! It's fun.

It relies upon on your organic skills. now and again the scholars that began early have a draw back over scholars who commence somewhat later, in spite of the undeniable fact that it really is unquestionably a threat that the later starter can carry out more effective powerful than a scholar that did it for virtually all their existence. it frequently relies upon on how determined you're. once you're desirous to be a sturdy ballet dancer, then opportunities are extreme that you'll practice more effective and take those steps to strengthen your self. also, once you're somewhat more effective mature, you've a extremely sturdy danger that you'll study the right options and dance more effective powerful than scholars that were doing the flawed options for years. (this is always troublesome to interrupt a nasty dance habit.) yet you may want to also understand that it really is going to be quite more effective sturdy for later starters to get used to turning out at their hips, tucking of their pelvis, etc. Over all, this isn't any longer no longer a threat to be more effective powerful than an early starter. in case you practice troublesome and examine out your maximum perfect, you're more effective likely to prevail. you even ought to appreciate that all people is different and that some are certainly more effective powerful at ballet than others. i wish I helped! sturdy success such as your ballet career! And keep in ideas, it would want to be somewhat troublesome in the starting up, yet do not supply up! Ballet calls for a tremendous variety of exertions, in spite of the undeniable fact that this is well worth it!

I started dancing when I was two but I have friends in dance who only started a few years ago and are very good. I think that 18 is a bit late to start, but since you have a background in dancing it will probably come easier for you. Just try your hardest and never give up!

Since you already have a base in dance, there's no reason why you couldn't give ballet a try at this point in your life. You would not go straight "en pointe"; you'd have to begin with basics & any teacher who would allow you to skip the beginnings & go straight to dancing on your toes isn't a good teacher. Go for it - ask your current teachers for lessons or if they don't offer ballet, ask whom they recommend. It's wonderful - I danced for years & loved it; I started my daughter when she was 4 & she wants to keep going! Break a leg!!
