The doctor in philosophy degree is more commonly called the PhD degree,
Here is how it goes. One goes through high school and gets a high school diploma. To go through all those subjects plus some intensive learning of those subjects, you get a bachelors degree. To actually be come a master of those subjects enough to be a teacher, you go through another 2 more years and get awarded a Masters degree.
Now, aPhD looks into the future, looks into the present state of affairs and examines where our science is leading us, and where is it going into? It is pretty exciting. This is the cutting edge , so to speak , of where we are at.
They can be scientists and immerse themselves with research , and most of them do that. SOme teach the guys who are doing their masters degrees or become heads of departments and universities.
Well, when work is hard to find, or they got burnt out and are taking a sabbatical, you may find them waiting tables or driving a taxicab or pulling expressos at starbucks too. :-)

No such thing. It's called a PhD. and it depends on what subject it is taken in. If it is in philosophy, teaching if there is a minor in education. Otherwise, in the field of the minor if you have one.
If you don't, you usually become a liberal artist of some sort.
