I have been watching this show for about 11 years now but within the past six months or so I haven't been following. I tuned in last week for a few minutes and saw that the OLD Philip was back, What the heck is up with that? and could you please give me a recap on what has been going on lately in Salem? :) Thanks

Kyle Brandt- the "new" (now old) Phillip, didn't renew his contract with the show, since it was a main character they had to recast. Jay kenneth Johnson, (the old now new phillip) hasnt found too much success since leaving days so he expressed interest in the part and won the role back.......As far as whats going on in Salem......

Victor had a scheme to get Phillip back custody of Claire, even though claire is Shawn and Belle's child, no one knew that until recently. Victor bought the judge etc and phillip won custody. Now Shawn and Belle have kidnapped Claire and are on the run, assisted by Mimi and Max (who are now dating or something like that).
Bo and Hope are back together now that Patrick has been arrested
Patch has his memory back and is back with Kayla
Stephanie just left for a racing job in Ohio
Chelsea and Billie moved into Samis old apartment and out of bonnies house
Chelsea is talking to someone online who she thinks is a doctor but is really Nick Fallon, the nerdy type kid who likes her
Billie slept with Nick bc she was depressed about losing Patch/Steve to Kayla when his memory came back
John was shot by EJ and is in a coma (EJ is Elvis Jr. Kristen's son, and EJ is the new Stefano evil guy on the show)
EJ is in Mexico, Steve is chasing him
Abe is leaving Lexie, who is leaving the show (with Tek)
Lucas and Sami are together and happy though EJ is still harrasing Sami
Austin and Carrie got married and left Salem........

The other guy left. They had Phillip go back to fighting under a false name. He got his face all burned up and this is his new face. Stupid, they could have used his old clips. The new writer isn't as good as they claimed. He keeps screwing up history and just making stupid storylines, like Phillip's new face, him dumping his true kid with Mimi to runaway with Claire.
Their baby should have been born by now too, they were pregnant before Hope. Just stupid all around these Days.

To take a guess the old phillip left and at some point decided he wanted to come back not too far into the time frame where veiwers could have really gotten used to the new phillip and ...........

Phillip went back to war in Iraq, got injured, got his face messed up and so they brought back the old Phillip saying that Phillip had his face reconstructed
